Aux. cooling fan

Ok people, now my delema is my aux. cooling fan stay's on all the time. I checked the relay, fan switck on the a/c line and when I checked the swith on the block by the #'s 6, and 8 cylinder I disconnected it, and it went off. Now, when I let the car warm up, my main cooling fan would not come on until I reconnected the second switch. I have no idea where to go from here, and I'm hoping someone can help me in fixing this.

Re: Aux. cooling fan

did you try replacing the switch in the head? i'd try replacing that first and then go from there.

The fan switch (in the head) is located towards the rear of the right ( passenger) side head. Chevy heads are usually symmetrical, so if you look at the left head and locate the temp sender, , mentally reverse the head and that is the location on the right head. The sensor in the block is the knock sensor. HTH I will have to check ( tomorrow) but I think that sensor is used for the primary fan. The aux fan comes on when temp is over 220 (?) or when the AC is on.

Did a quick check thru the shop manual. If the aux fan runs all the time, disconnect the aux fan switch sensor ( the one in the right side head). If the fan shuts off, replace the switch. If the fan continues to run, with the switch disconneted, remove the connector at the AC pressure switch. If the fan still runs, remove the C/H fan fuse. If the doesnt stop, replace the aux fan relay. If fan stops with the fuse removed, check the dark green/white and the grey wires for a short to ground. The grey wire is on the AC pressure switch, the dark green/white wire is located at the aux fan relay. Good luck.
