Here at The GTA Source Page, one of the most frequent requests I’ve gotten over the past twenty-eight years is for documentation… more, more, more, PLEASE?
When was this… why was that… what were those for… etc, etc, etc, etc…
In today’s digital world, everyone is used to lightning-fast, instantaneous communication just about anywhere and everywhere. But as the older folks in our owners group can attest, it wasn’t always that way.
Back in the day, Pontiac Motor Division used various forms of Dealer Bulletins to inform their dealer network about pertinent information; these bulletins were sent to each dealer as necessary throughout the model year. Each carline produced pertinent bulletins that would go out to dealers, and would then go into their yearly Dealer Showroom Binder after implementation. For instance, Sales Information Bulletins (SIB) were used to inform the network about new models and/or feature introductions. For example, both the 1989 20th Anniversary Trans Am and the 1991 return of the Firebird Convertibles were announced with full-color SIBs.
More mundane, but no less important, information was communicated with the PMD dealer network using Car Distribution Bulletins (CDB). Always printed on yellow paper for 1) visibility and 2) to let dealer staff know these were important documents, these CDBs dealt with the “everyday” running changes for all carline models during a production year. For documentation purposes, the CDBs are usually more informative as they listed certain changes, additions, or deletions by date that were applied to the various carlines in production. Some of what we consider the most important things about GTA production were once buried deep in a yearly dealer album in its own section in that binder with only that famous yellow color to bring attention to them. Crazy, right?
The GTA Source Page has been fortunate enough to obtain these bulletins for each year of GTA production. Looking through these documents, I’ve seen the answers to many questions that have arisen over the years regarding GTA-related production… there is virtually something documented in each year’s CDB collection that addresses something questioned in the past here at The Source Page.
This section has all the Pontiac Firebird Car Distribution Bulletins from 1987 thru 1992 arranged by model year so they can be viewed individually as desired. There are also comments attached to each bulletin explaining what the purpose or revision was for further reader clarity.
