1990 marked a kind of quasi-year for the Firebirds, as the cars retained the exterior styling of the 1985 re-vamp for the final time while coupling it with the new, restyled interior that featured the first use of a Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) airbag in the F-cars. The GTA interior styling lost a little of its “upscale” appearance in this shakeup with more shared usage with other Firebird models, but progress marched on. The Southwestern motif featured in the advertising that year really made the GTA stand out; not really an issue with these cars, but it still was a nice touch.
