
For its final year of production, the GTA took a precipitous drop of some 83.5% in the number of cars built compared to the previous year. The total number of cars built for export markets (282) accounted for more than the number of units that were assembled for sales in the United States (226). These totals naturally meant that some combinations were built in extremely low numbers.
The GTA’s MSRP rose again for 1992; this final year’s price of admission increasing to $26,370. This increase obviously didn’t help ensure that the cars would be screaming out of dealer showrooms. In fact, I spoke with a local dealer back in the day in Searcy, Arkansas who told me that their particular dealership actually received one Arctic White ’92 GTA but couldn’t attract any interest in it no matter what they tried. The sales manager ended up swapping it as part of a dealer trade for “a couple of Buicks and an Oldsmobile” just to get it off the lot.
The exterior color production figures for each available color shows a separate figure in parenthesis; this second number denotes the number of each color produced for sales in the US.
