COOLING FAN SWITCH

OK, HERE IS WHAT I WANT TO DO. I WANT TO RUN A SWITCH THAT WHEN IN ONE POSITION WILL RUN THE COOLING FANS ALL THE TIME FOR 'AROUND THE TOWN' DRIVING, BUT THEN WHEN ON THE HIGHWAY I CAN SWITCH IT THE OTHER WAY AND THE CAR WILL CONTROL THE FANS SO THAT I DO NOT PUT NEEDLESS WEAR AND TEAR ON THE FAN MOTORS AND ALTERNATOR. ANY HELP WOULD BE GREAT.

Re: COOLING FAN SWITCH

Assuming your fan switch is connect to the hot (positive) wire, then all you need to do is to run a hot wire to a switch in the interior somewhere, then to the fan after the coolant switch (meaning it will go on the wire between the fan and the coolant switch). That will make them a par of parallel switches. When the switch is off, the fan will act normally, when on, it'll act as an override and turn the fan on. When both are in the on position it will just run a double hot to the fan and won't hurt it since they're in parallel.
