Talking 1988 Trans Am GTA 5.7L Auto Hardtop Digital Dash 29,000 Original Miles

In Southern California Riverside Area. Zip 92584. I have a beautiful 1988 Trans AM GTA that just turned 29,000 Original Miles. Everything Is Operational on Car. Dealer Serviced for most it's life. Automatic 5.7L All Original Engine. Digital Dash. Fully Optioned Vehicle. Garaged for Life and Owned By Elderly Couple, Car Was Not Driven For Many Many Years. Purchased and Shipped To California in January 2014 it has been brought back to life.

Vin# 1G2FW2185JL219288 / 81U Bright Red / One Repaint In Past

All Window Stickers / Owners Booklets / Entire Service History all in nice Folder. Very Cool. Full History of car from Day 1.

Basically One Owner Vehicle. I am Second Owner. I have owned 13 months and put less than 1,000 miles on car. Have had fun working on vehicle on weekends, bringing it back to life and taking out cruising on Sundays.

Interior Is 9.5 out of 10. All Original. It has crack on passenger upper door trim plastic (common) and is missing small door trim piece. Thats It. Back seats look like they have never been used. It's a Time Capsule inside. Beautiful and all Original Floormats.

Exterior Is 8 out of 10. Body Straight / No Dings. Biggest problem I see is the repaint was a "B" job. When really looking up close spots have some paint run. It has all new emblems and door mouldings. Looks awesome. Just paint has problem areas that need attention. It's an "A" car with a "B" paint job.

Original Muffler. Unmolested Engine. Power Antenna works (been replaced). Hatchback Motor Works. I have done new plugs, wires, cap and rotor. Fuel Filter / New battery. EGR Valve. Heater Control Valve. Kept all AC Delco when I could. New Hood/Hatch Supports. And more...dont have list in front of me.

Has big orange 1988 Service Manual and a Bra that is new in the box from 1988. Never used.

Call 951-672-0649 ask for Robert. Email is rjsenior@verizon.net. Would like to see car go to 3rd Gen enthusiast who will take good care of it. $13,500 is priced right for the market. Not 17K like the rest on ebay.

Car Has not been posted on ebay or craigslist. No hurry to sell. Still cruising on sundays...but looking to move on to some house projects.

Few picks under album area on website. user rjsenior. I will post more when I can. $13,500 obo. Registration just paid. January 2016 sticker.

Best of luck to you rjsenior, that's a very nice red GTA. There's a couple of very nice 1988's for sale on here including mine. I hope you get a great price for yours because it'll reflect on what the rest of us get for ours (and vise versa). I promised myself that I won't just give mine away for an unworthy low price, but will just keep it.
again best of luck, Greg (GJL2000) 'SD 1988 GTA' in 'Member Albums' /original owner, gunmetal gray

Original owner had vehicle resprayed prior to sale. He advised problems with spoiler and chips on front end.

I will be listing this GTA in local auto trader next month I believe for 11K. House projects not getting done.... Will work with buyer on shipping / inspections.

29,068 Miles. I took it out on Easter Sunday.......$11,000.

Re: 1988 Trans Am GTA 5.7L Auto Hardtop Digital Dash 29,000 Original Miles

Thank you 1badgta. Steering Wheel looks great..All controls work...I just picked up a cover from Sears Auto to protect it when I bought the car back in Dec 2013. I have original floormats like you as well. The driver headlight actuator motor just started giving me trouble on Sunday. Going to order new one this week.....If anyone has questions on this GTA call me. My wife wants house projects done so $11,000 is priced to sell in my opinion. This car is very clean...smogged and registered January 2016 stickers.

Re: 1988 Trans Am GTA 5.7L Auto Hardtop Digital Dash 29,000 Original Miles

Your headlights probably just need new gears installed. Way cheaper than motors and I'm not sure you can even buy those anymore.

If the motor is running and the door doesn't move, you need the gears. TDS has them, no big deal to change but takes a little time.

Search on this board, I did a thread a few years back with pictures and a how to article.

e-mail me if you need help-I didn't remove the entire assembly and only the motors. This way you don't have to realign the doors with hood and fenders.

Nice GTA, my 88 is exactly like this one.

its not new gears needed for the headlights but the little bushings that act as stops. they disintegrate over time. thunderchicken on here recommended to me that I use heater core hose of the same diameter (i think it is like .281" but don't quote me. if anyone can mic some that would be helpful.) I used her suggestion and it works like a charm and they may never wear out again.

See this thread about the heater core hose (http://www.gtasourcepage.com/forum/s...ight=headlight)

Re: 1988 Trans Am GTA 5.7L Auto Hardtop Digital Dash 29,000 Original Miles

Gears/bushings/whatever you want to call'em. We're talking about the same thing. If you want to be technical, TDS and some call them bushings. Whatever.

Personally I'd do it right the first time and use the TDS bushings. They're superior to OEM and won't wear out again either. They sell a kit that has everything you need-bushings, the grease and replacement bolts.

All you need is flex head ratcheting wrench to access the bolts. There's plenty of room. Done this both ways and it's a hell of a lot easier to remove the motor only. The re-aligning the headlight door takes forever if you remove the entire assembly. Plus, if you remove the motor only, you don't have to aim the headlights again.

Like I said, the thread is here somewhere, do a search.

TDS is the only way to go for headlight motor rebuilds. Have used their products...top notch all the way.

Re: 1988 Trans Am GTA 5.7L Auto Hardtop Digital Dash 29,000 Original Miles

Congrats, beautiful car. My 88 is the exact combo.

I knew this would sell quickly at that price, very reasonable given the condition and miles.

Hope the new owner joins this site. Take care.
