Our wheels in bigger sizes, who's interested?

As much as I love the GTA it drives me nuts that our wheels aren't available anywhere in larger diameters. I'm considering having a set custom made. Maybe 17x8's for the front and 18x 10's out back, or 18's and 19's. I definitely like them staggered. The front wheel wells are pretty much filled but a wider tire could go in the back and look good if the off set is correct.
Just wondering who might go with me if I can work out some kind of deal to have multiple sets made. I know that 1-offs will be very expensive and that just 5 or 10 sets won't change the price much but thought you all might feel the way I do.
I'm not one of those people who gets off from having the only 1 of something.

Best of luck to you. I remember at least once in the past that others tried to get our rims repro'ed in larger sizes but met with not a lot of interest. I mean there was a lot of interest online but when it came time to pony up the dough interest faded pretty quickly. But who knows....this time may be the effort that gets it done.

Re: Our wheels in bigger sizes, who's interested?

Well, alone or not, I expect to see at least 1 set of them made. No isn't really an option when it comes to making Dad's car into what it should be.

I would love to go with 18" rims on mine..I'm wondering if it's the offset between the front and rears that's making it so costly..Keep this post going....

We went down this road with HAWKS years ago. They were talking about remaking them in a bigger size, but they were talking billet aluminum and something like a 2k price tag.

Re: Our wheels in bigger sizes, who's interested?

I'm also looking for 18s- I already have the tires- 275 40 18 on back, 245 45 on front. Found a set I like that are close to original gold and are staggered...but BMW specs. How would I get these to work? I'm interested in what you find, but this might be an option also.

$2k is a KILLER price for a set of custom made replica billet GTA wheels! I've already talked to two different companies about making these wheels for me and I wish mine were going to cost so little. This company: http://evodwheels.com/ quoted me a price of $1500 per wheel. I plan on going with 18 x 9 for the front and 18 x 11 for the rear. I'll get that project started after I get everything else wrapped up with my car. There's another company that I'd like to get a firm quote from.

I met a guy at SEMA this past November that owns www.renneninternational.com. I told him what I was interested in doing and he said he could PROBABLY do it for $1k per wheel. He wants me to send him a wheel or two for CNC programming.

It doesn't have to be the GTA trademark rim for me. Since my body color is the gunmetal grey, I'd like to go with the same color rim in a nice pattern that when I see them I'll say.."That's the style I want."

That might be a killer price, but not for alot of us on here. The majority of people here only paid 2k-5k for their car. I for one can't afford 3k-4k for some rims and tires.

Re: Our wheels in bigger sizes, who's interested?

I recently picked up a set of Boze Forged wheels for my car from Hawks. They were definately pricey, but they were built to my specifications. Total price tag on my wheels was $2300 for the set. They are 17x8 for the front and 17x9.5 in the rear. I have had so many problems finding wheels for my car that are different from what I see on other F-Body cars so I bit the bullet and paid the extra money for them. I even considered a set of the new Bandit wheels for my car as well. The last time I spoke to YearOne about them they were quoting me $2500 for the set. If you've got the money and want something different then custom wheels are the way to go. As Munson mentioned though, not everyone has the money to throw at new wheels like that. It took me about a year to come up with the money for my wheels. Hopefully by the end of next week they'll be on the car. I'm just waiting for my suspension and brake work to be finished before I put them on.

Re: Our wheels in bigger sizes, who's interested?

So I am curious, if the front tires and the back tires are different size, would that have some type of negative impact on how the car would turn at higher speeds like on the highways? I am asking because I was instructed many years ago that it is the best to have all of the tires on the car the same size so that there is uniform performances. Is this not true?

Re: Our wheels in bigger sizes, who's interested?

Not everyone thinks uniform appearance is always best. Look at some pictures of cars with staggered wheels set ups. Now, if you bow down at the 'my car is completely stock so it's the best' altar, then maybe uniform is for you. Personally, I don't have a pristine condition stocker. Ours stands out for other reasons. An aggressive stance is only going to add to its appeal.
Concerning safety...different wheel sizes don't necessarily mean different tire diameters. Regardless, the main contributor to de-stabilizing a car's handling would be large differences in contact patch or traction between the front and the rear tires. All this should be kept in mind when picking a wheel and tire combination for a ride. Looks? Well that's a matter of opinion and everybody has one.

Re: Our wheels in bigger sizes, who's interested?

Many high-end performance cars come with staggered wheel and tire sizes these days. Corvettes, Ferrari, Lamborghini, etc. Since upgrading my wheels and tires along with the rest of the new suspension stuff I have noticed a big difference in the way it rides and handles. The night I picked my car up and put the new wheels and tires on I had to run and get gas. On the way home I decided to see just how much improvement I had. Needlesstosay it was much better than expected. I was able to take a curve at around 70mph plus. The added meat hitting the ground out back has also helped minimize my traction issues that I was having before with the stock size 245/50 cross laced 16s. My 275/40 17s are roughly the same diameter as my stock size wheels and tires. Overall, I'm pleased with the added grip and handling of the upgrades to my car.

Looks Nice! Details on wheels including specs? I wonder if they would make those with gold centers instead of black?
