Unexpected Trophy

The wife and I headed to Pigeon Forge, Tennessee for our 7th Anniversary this past weekend. It was the perfect weekend and trip to break in Project OVRMYHD. The GTA ran beautifully and was a joy to road trip in. On day two my wife noticed that there was a Pontiac gathering in town call Pontiacs in Pigeon Forge.
She insisted we go and once there she nudged me towards entering our girl in the show, despite my assurances that the GTA wasn't even close to ready for competition. She has no headliner, sun-visors, sail panels, a cracked dash pad, busted speaker grills, faded interior plastics, major and minor paint flaws and an engine bay that was hardly up to the task.
The wife got her way, as usual and we entered the old girl (car not wife- LOL) into the show.
Since we were there for our Anniversary we couldn't really hang out and display all day. We just cleaned her off a little, touched up the paint the best we could, and gave her a quick shine and then headed out on our date in the GTA.
Saturday morning we swung by the show about an hour after judging started and went straight to the back of the line, got the car judged and headed right out again for more Anniversary date.
The awards were Sunday morning at 10 and I was convinced that we should skip out and just head on home. Again, at the wife's insistence, we attended and found out that somehow we pulled off a 3rd place trophy in our class (82-92 Formula/Trans Am Modified).
It was the perfect weekend! We really enjoyed meeting so many nice people as we did. There will be more shows in our future for sure. In the meantime I will see if the old girl can get a little closer to 1st.

Re: Unexpected Trophy

Thats great, what a surprise. Looks like you had to stop and get some tire foam ... unless you carry.....

Car looks great sitting there, hard to believe all that interior stuff is off and you pulled off a prize ! Nice work.

Hope that you mean the car when you say "Old Girl" JK, LOL
Looks great -congrats.

Thanks man! Yes, we stopped to get a few things to make her shine. The wife did the tires. She carries.
I was really shocked about placing alright. Then I realized there was only 1 car in my class and I still only got 3rd! LOL Now that's a joke. Maybe not far from fact though. Haha

Re: Unexpected Trophy

Congrats on the trophy! Well deserved. Looks great. Looks like you had a red Bandit II sitting a couple cars down from you? Wonder if that is the same one I beat at the TA Nationals back in 09. Again congrats. Very cool.

If it helps, he was an older guy, maybe in his 50's or 60's. He traded for the car and it has 40,000 miles on it. He wants $16,500 for it. Y'ouch!

Re: Unexpected Trophy

Nice man. congrats!
In the late 80s I worked for a Chevy lot as a "lot" boy". I no longer had my 86TA and missed it. My coworker, another lot boy had a GTA in gunmetal like yours but with a paxton blower on it. Never rode in it and always wondered how fast she was. it was the only person I knew with that color GTA. Looks nice!

Sounds like it might be. Not a bad looking car, but not my cup of tea with the stick on shaker scoop and wannabe GTA wheels. I was parked next to him that year and he didn't seem very friendly. Maybe it was just me he didn't care for lol.

This was me parked next to him that year.........does that look like the same car (what you can see of it lol)?

Re: Unexpected Trophy

Yes, Bill, it does but I think they might all look the same?

True they do look alike, but with only approximately 600 produced from 88-92 (I think) they are few and far between and if my mind serves me correctly, they were from that part of Tennessee. There is actually a write up of that car in High Performance Pontiac.

Sorry didn't mean to deter from your much deserved trophy. Just thought it was interesting to spot that car in your photo. Congrats again and here's to many more trophies in your future.
