Help Me Please Painting a brand new fiberglass hood??

Hey guys/ladies well i just bought a new fiberglass for my 88 trans am gta with a 3inch cowl induction, the hood is made for perfect fit for a 88 trans am gta and had no problems fitting in fact it fit perfect and hood pins i installed also came out perfect, but painting fiberglass is totally diffrent right?? I researched it and found many ways which includ sanding, wet-sanding black base coats etc... Has anybody painted a fiberglass hood???? I am a apprentice auto painter so i can handle the metal and plastic bumpers etc.. But never done fiberglass before, i just dont want to screw up my new $500 hood, or should i just take it to the professional painters??

No problem, just prep the same as you would a metal hood but be sure before you sand to thoroughly de-wax with Prepsol or similar because they use wax to keep it from sticking to the mold when built.

And add a little of the flex additive they use for flexible bumpers. It will make a huge difference in how long your paint lasts before it gets spiderweb cracks that look like random-weave fiberglass. Many paint mfgrs actually give specs for how much to add for painting fiberglass. I paint ABS motorcycle plastics and fiberglass race fairings.

Rio Rancho! Hmm, down the street from you probably. Yea, painting should be almost the same. I had mine done and in certain lights you can still see the waiveness from the fiberglass..
