Re: Taillight Covers

The picture I saw of them on google was pretty bad, like you mentioned the fit on the ones I saw looked poor. If you could post that picture it would be nice, I could get an idea of how blacked out lights on a GTA looked.

I will have to find it and then I will scan it and post it so you can see. It was basically a flat piece of smoke colored plexiglass that was mounted at an angle to match the contour of the front of the car. One of them went on each side of the front bumper cover. They were made in such a way where they would not touch the headlights so when you would turn on the headlights, the plexiglass pieces would not move.

The ones that I had seen while back in Japan were much better quality. They were actually three dimentional, unlike the ones that I bought nearly two years later in America which were just flat pieces of smoke colored plexiglass. From a distance they looked ok but close up they did not look good, unlike the ones in Japan that I had seen before. I should have asked the owner of that GTA where he got them since we did meet and talk in person at that time only.

Re: Taillight Covers

I think this what you are talking about. http://www.thirdgen.org/techboard/au...-have-gts.html
I have a set of these just never installed them on my GTA. I would only use these at a car show. They are only held on by velcro.

Re: Taillight Covers

Yes those look like the ones that I purchased, but the ones I got were darker and so you would not be able to see the turn signal light so well like you can in the photograph on that link. I still have them too, but they are not on my GTA and never will be again as long as I am owning it.

Re: Taillight Covers

I agree. I am unsure why I still keep them but maybe just for memories of the phase I had at one time that I put an aftermarket thing on my GTA. The maker of them was something like GSO, it was little white stickers of the lettering.

Re: Taillight Covers

Tonight I found one of the photographs that I took of my GTA in 1992 when I had those covers for my own GTA. I had the trunk lid open during the time I took the photograph so you can see the aerospoiler above the roof. Also notice that the aerospoiler clear coat was coming off? Twenty years ago and my GTA was 5 years old at that time. I had the front cover on the car at that time. My car looks much better now than it did then I think. This photograph was taken with a 35mm camera. Not as good as the photographs that I take now with the Sony SR-12 HD movie camera that we have now.

I hate to bring up an old thread but would you be willing to part with those turn signal covers?

Thank you for asking about them, but I do not know if we still have them. I have not seen them for a long while now and since they are not original parts, they may have been disguarded. Sorry.
