Cam with computer?

Hey everyone, this is a great site and i love to ask you people questions!! i get all my answers for me being such a young age and not knowing much about these! ok so anyway, back to another question, i bought a comp cam and it should be here tomorrow, i was just running if i could run it with the stock computer or would i need a aftermarket chip? ok so here are the specs...

The duration is 262/270 with a lift of 464/470.

Re: Cam with computer?

Hey i'm pretty young too, you just got to do research. As far as the cam i think you should be fine with the stock computer. I'm almost for sure my GTA might be cammed and as far as i know she is stock other than that. But im sure someone else on here knows for sure

Re: Cam with computer?

It may work but not to its full potential. It may drive like crap too. But a good tune can fix all that driveability/reliability and give you max power. They are cheap and easy to install.

Re: Cam with computer?

Yep, like badassbird mentioned, it will work, it may idle like crap and drive like crap. Meaning too rich down low, too lean up high and right around max power/torque might not have enough spark or fuel or air to produce proper numbers.

You would do best after installation to go for a chassis dyno tune with someone who knows how to program your TPI otherwise look to an aftermarket DFI system.

Re: Cam with computer?

If its a MAF car, it will run fine if everything was done properly and injs aren't changed.
Of course it will run better with a tune.
I have a 400 plus inch motor, AFR 235s, mini ram, nice size solid roller cam and Ive had a stock chip in it for a looong time..

Re: Cam with computer?

Agreed. The only way to tune a car is with the car in front of you with the proper equipment to tune it.
