Tracey made some headway on the swap today and expects to have the wiring wrapped up tomorrow Here you can see the transmission cooler and computer installed. I was glad to hear he felt the best place for the computer is inside the car.

So the computer is from a car that had a LS motor in it? My bad. I didn't want to take over the thread. Did you get anything from Hawks Thirdgen for the LS motor?

Yes, I believe the computer is from a 4th gen. f-body. Maybe like a 2001 Z28.
As for Hawk...The fiberglass wrap-around spoiler and Conversion headers came from them. I'm not sure what else. I may have ordered the carpet from them too but not sure. Not real thrilled with the spoiler due to improper fit, but it will do.

That wiring job is so, so clean. I wish I could get someone around here who actually knew what they were doing. You're lucky.

Thank you. Believe me, I know how lucky I am. Tracey is great. He is very much so in demand and having him do the car meant it taking quite a while to get done. But I wouldn't have it any other way. I'll take his work on whatever schedule he can give it before some quick hack job, anyday!

Is that where the spare wheel was originally in? If not, I do not recognize where this area is in the car.

The battery will last very long in that area for sure. That's where it is in my BMW. Very smart to design it there because it will not get excessive heat from the engine, in which heat shortens the life of batteries.

Re: New member with 89 GTA project OVRMYHD

Looks awesome. Did you use the BMR battaery relocation kit? I am doing the same thing to my car. I'd love to see a write-up on how you wire it.

Re: New member with 89 GTA project OVRMYHD

Yes. I used the bmr piece. Had to do a little modification to the forward mounting arm and had to scrape some seem sealer. Also had to cut the carpet a little. I ran the ground cable thru the tire well and grounded it to the rear passenger frame rail. The positive gets routed behind the pinch welded sheet metal behind the tire in the wheel well. After that the sfcs make a great place to route the cable.

Re: New member with 89 GTA project OVRMYHD

The most important thing you can do when doing a relocation is to add a HEAVY ground cable from the engine block to the frame. This must be done and be done cleanly. If not many strange issues can arise that could have been avoided.

Re: New member with 89 GTA project OVRMYHD

First fire was delayed by a fail from the ignition switch. Bummer. Tracey had her hooked up to his laptop. Everything was good for a bit, then the bad switch showed itself. As soon as he gets a new switch in there she should be about ready to go, assuming no more issues pop up. I'm glad it happened when it did instead of the day I got it home.

I would have prefered it to be on the inside of the car instead because on the outside, it can get damaged or something like that.
