Auto Dimming/adjusting mirror question.

Just trying to firgure out how many people here have the auto dimming mirror on their cars. Also was it an option for the GTA line for all 5 years. I really like mine and of all the cars I have owned its the only one to have it.

Re: Auto Dimming/adjusting mirror question.

My wife's 87 had it, and I like it a lot. My current car, however, does not.

I have it on my GTA. I don't drive the car that much at night. I have seen this type of mirror on some other gm car.

Re: Auto Dimming/adjusting mirror question.

I believe it was a 1987 only option. Neither of my '88 GTAs have it.

Re: Auto Dimming/adjusting mirror question.

I have seen these mirrors in other years of GTAs besides 1987. Perhaps these mirrors were installed in 1987 GTAs as standard equipment, but as optional in 1988 and newer GTAs. I really do not know for sure. But I have seen them in other years of GTAs I am pretty sure.....if I remember correctly.....But I am getting old now so.....never know.

Re: Auto Dimming/adjusting mirror question.

In 1987, the GTA was an option package and not a stand alone model and did not come fully loaded with power options as in the 88-92 years. You could option the car as you wished. So, the mirror was optional in 87 as were power windows, power locks, tilt steering wheel, criuse control etc...
I believe that starting in 1988, all those comfort options became standard equipment on the GTA.

Re: Auto Dimming/adjusting mirror question.

So with this document, it basically is showing that the 1987 GTA optional package included the automatic dimmer mirror with all of the other GTA specific items, yes? So starting in 1988 did the automatic dimmer mirror have its own specific option and price on that sheet (window sticker) or was this mirror a part of a much larger optional package?

Re: Auto Dimming/adjusting mirror question.

Frankie had a good post about 1987 GTAs:
http://www.gtasourcepage.com/forum/s...3&postcount=11

The mirror in question is DD8. This was actually available prior to 1987 and means it was an option on the Trans AM before the 1987 GTA was released.

However, I'm not sure if the RPO code was superseded by another. I state this because 1990,1991 and 1992 show no Firebirds with RPO code DD8. So either the option went away sometime around 1988/1989, or the RPO code was updated. I know the device was updated on GM's other platforms from mechanical to electrical.

DD8 was not standard on any GTA, not even in 1988.

By the way, did anyone else notice the part on Wes' window sticker that stated:
Quote:
1987 FIREBIRD/TRANS AM/FORMULA
5.7 LITER V8 ENGINE
FUEL INJECTION, MANUAL
3 SPD TRANS

FEEDBACK FUEL SYSTEM
That is not what the window sticker shows for the 1988 GTA I have, as it's "AUTO 4 spd Trans" with the "5.7 LITER":

Wes, was your window sticker reproduced? Why does it show 5.7L manual 3 spd transmission for the gas mileage guide section?

Re: Auto Dimming/adjusting mirror question.

I noticed this also, but what I was thinking was....the vehicle had those options as a base price, and then in the main body of the document where all the options are listed, for the additional $2,700 the car had the GTA options as stated in this area such as the larger 5.7 liter engine, the 4 speed transmissions, seats, the mirrors, the suspension, the gold rims, all of that stuff.

At the very top of the document it has the 5.0 liter engine listed, and then in the main body of the document it lists the GTA options that includes the 5.7 liter engine, and then at the fuel consumption it lists the fuel consuption based on the engine and transmissions that the car actually had with the options.

Maybe I am wrong about what I think about it. Maybe someone more experienced then I am can know exactly why this is.

The $2700 GTA package conisited of the items in the right hand column ( seats, wheels, 5.7, oil cooler, mats, disc brakes, limited slip rearend, emblems). Power accessories were all optional and are listed in the left column with prices.
The factory order sheets had these options grouped in packages....something like Group 1 and Group 2. But the window sticker listed them seperately. Some options were stand alone and not part of any package (t-tops, radios) and some could be deleted from the packages if the buyer did not want them.

I think the thing that Jeremy was pointing to was the "manual 3 spd trans" which probably wasnt available in a Firebird since the 1st gen.

Not sure why it says that Jeremy. Good catch, I never spotted that before.

Re: Auto Dimming/adjusting mirror question.

Wes, reason why I ask is because I wonder if there was some sort of misprint/mistake with the reproduction.

There's a low mileage 1987 GTA on eBay right now that has the window sticker which looks to be the original one (black/white with old paper).

You can see it shows, what I would believe to be, the proper info:

Shows the 5.7 with the AUTO, not Manual or 3spd.

Re: Auto Dimming/adjusting mirror question.

Yeah, probably not a big deal. But it does make one wonder what else may not be technically correct.

Wes, do you not have the original window sticker? I suppose I assumed you were the original owner.

Sorry that we hijacked this thread with a bit of a secondary topic.
