Another Hawk's 3rd Gen Wing

I finally got my wing painted and installed. I've had it in the cardboard box since last August and finally dry fitted it this month and got it painted. I installed it last Sunday and shot a couple photos today.

The paint match is good against the unfaded parts of my car, with lighting and angles the match is better than it appears in the photos.

The only issue I had was that I dry fitted it without the third brake light. When I installed with wing with the light the left and right sides of the wing would not rest on the deck, the light assembly caused them to be raised about 1/8th inch. So, I used the supplied foam washers on the left and right sides and used silicone under the brake light and gradually snugged everything down. Thanks to everyone with suggestions, especially Gary who emailed me some great, detailed instructions.

The car looks so much more complete now with the wing. Here are some photos:

The flash fired on this one - kinda cloudy today - that is why the reflector in the tail lights is glowing.

That looks absolutely fantastic! It's something you'll never be sorry you did, and really keeps the original look of the car!

There is a considerable weight difference, how much I don't know for certain. With the original wing when I hit the hatch release the motor would raise the hatch and then pull it back down because it was still in contact with the hatch gizmo. I usually opened it with the key to catch it before it could close up. Consider also that my original wing probably lost a pound of rust over time! Now, the hatch will release and sit an inch or two ajar and with a light touch the struts open it completely without slamming at the top. Without the wing that was another story. I had to control it because it would slam at the top.

Looks great! I have one of the original G&T Fiberglass wings (the original reproducers), and you will love yours as well. Mine was the best 0$ I ever spent.

As for weight, I couldn't tell a substantial difference in my car's two wings. There was a difference, but it was not what I was expecting.

Hey, do you think that the instalation of the Hawks spoiler should be a sticky? I will be installing mine soon, and I am sure that there will be others in the future.

Here is another photo. About the blocked out plate - I am not worried about any of you guys abusing the number, but in general I think it is a good idea to obscure any personal identifiers that are posted on the Web.

That and an auto to manual swap might be sticky candidates. Good luck with your install. Gary GTA50 sent me some great instructions that I still have and can send to you, or I am sure he can also send them along.

Re: Another Hawk's 3rd Gen Wing

I have no problem either way with the instructions. For EODsmitty, PM me your e-mail and I can send them or Tony, you can also forward them on.

I had tried to post them earlier, but as a Word document and with the photos, apparently, there was not enough "room" to upload it.

As for a "sticky" that also works for me.

Gary.

Re: Another Hawk's 3rd Gen Wing

Anyone interested in trying for a group buy on this spoiler from Hawks? I think we would need at least 10 people.

There was a group buy just last month. I believe it started with turbotransam forum and then migrated over to TGO site as well.
I didn't find out about it until late (I think I was the second to last one they allowed).
If I had known sooner I would have posted a "heads-up" over here.

It will be another month before I will have time to install mine.

Yeah I saw it too late. They had group buys for $350 last month and $300 last year. I think I'll probably wait and watch for another group buy. I've lived with the damaged factory spoiler for 13 years so I guess I can wait another year if I have to.
