Re: my new rims..

It reminds me of when I was looking for different rims for my own GTA in 1991 and 1992. I just bought one that I thought was great and had it put on the car. I then drove the car around for a little while just to make sure that this type of rim was the one that I really wanted to replace all of my original GTA rims with.

During that time that I had the one rim on my GTA, so many guys asked me why I had one that was different than the rest. I explained why and all of them said that they wanted to buy from me the factory original ones. They also said that the factory original ones looked better than the aftermarket one that I had on it.

After a few weeks, I decided that the factory original gold rims were the best and I got rid of that aftermarket rim. I seemed to get tired of the aftermarket one, the look and style of the aftermarket one that I had temporarily on my GTA became boring to me. Like listening to a new song for the first time, it sounds so good, but after listening to it for a few dozen times in a month, you just do not want to hear it any longer. But then there are the really great songs that never seem to get boring. That is what happened in my situation with the aftermarket rim that I had on my GTA just temporarily. It got boring, so it was not the best choice for my GTA.

So perhaps in your case now, you may decide that you like the factory original ones better, or....maybe you will still like the ones that you have on it now. To me however, I prefer the original ones because it is what came on the car new. I think I am getting to my age where car rim styles really do not make any difference to me anymore. So of course I will favor the factory ones.

Re: my new rims..

I never liked formula wheels, and I don't like all black wheels. It looks to me like you almost have your GTA set up for winter driving with steelies on it. Normally I am not a fan of stock wheels, but the gold crosslace wheels look so good, they are perfect. I have no idea why anyone would take them off. GTA just isn't a total GTA to me without them. still a nice car either way though.

Re: my new rims..

To each their own as the saying is.... I found the only picture that I have of my GTA with that aftermarket rim on it. I am pretty sure that this is the one and only picture I took ever showing this rim on my GTA. I took this picture in 1992 as I wrote the date on the back of it when I received it back from getting developed, photograph taken on my 35MM camera, the old days...

Aftermarket rim on front driver side of my GTA. (notice the wheel weight on the rear driver side outer portion of the rim , that was done by Goodyear). Today I would never allow anyone to put wheel weights on the outer portion of my GTA rims! Also owner’s who know, will recognize that the tires on my GTA in this picture were those gatorback tires. The rear tire is very obvious that it is a gatorback tire. Enjoy the picture......

Re: my new rims..

I kinda expected these responses You guys bought the GTA cause to liked the look with the rims. its fine. They are too "pretty" to me for such a hot body of a car. The car was made to look muscular. the crosslaces look elegant.. not like a muscle car that mine drives like.
Oh well. Atleast I kept it with same generation rims with same make unlike the snowflake rims...

I have always liked it. When we removed it during the restoration project, the car looked terrible to me without it.

Actually, the way I see it, if you like it, does it really matter? Enjoy it, and drive it.

I think you could acheive the same look with some black cross lace rims from a T/A.

There you go.... I'm not one to criticize rims. My red car did not have the OEM gold rims on it when I bought it new and was 10 years old before I got them back on there. It had silver Ronal R9s on it when I bought it in 09/1988.

Re: my new rims..

Gold crosslaces are nice, BUT there is one factory wheel in my book that is nicer that these. The factory Ronal R15s as demonstrated here by this Firehawk.

And i have a set of chromed ones with modified center caps that read like the factory WS6 caps. Got them from a nice fella in Canada with an 87 Formula. The pic doesnt do them justice. I cant wait to take my car back to the states to put them on.

Re: my new rims..

Having stock or aftermarket wheels have never bothered me.
I might not want them on my car, but if the owner puts different on his/her car, and likes them, fine.
In the end, it's your car.
I have done all kind of things with my 1989 20th TTA.
I have used black 16 inch Diamond Spoke wheels (what everyone calls GTA wheels).
I even have a set done up in white.
I ran with two white wheels, and 2 gold wheels, both 16 inch Doamond Spokes, and matching colors per side.
No one liked the white wheels.
But I do, and I will still trade off the golds for the white every so often.
I have also used "colored dots" to fill in the round end of the black plastic lug nuts.
Pontiac did this back in the late 60s and early 70s.
Black dots and red dots on the chrome lug nuts.
I have done a set in white (I use these for either my gold set, or my white set of wheels.
I have also done a set in gold, but I like the white better, since the car is white.
I have even done a set in red, for my girlfriend's '91 Firebird, which she is now using my "spare" set of gold 16 inch Diamond Spoke wheels.
I like them, and I change them around every so often.
It's almost like having a bunch of different cars.
Who cars what others think.
You like them.
I tend to like matching colored wheels on cars.
