1987 gta

Well I see a 1987 GTA on sale but something seems odd to me. The emblem on the front bumper cover is mounted too low. On the 1987 GTA, there are two holes that the emblem fit into, so if you are refinishing the front bumper cover, there is absolutely no possible way to mount the emblem in the wrong location. So either the front bumper cover was changed and they then drilled out the mounting holes in the wrong area for the emblem, or....there is more to this story. And for such a low mileage car and how the owner says it has never been in an accident and is all original factory....I have to wonder.

I love GTA knowledge.

It may have been replaced. I know the ones on my car are not in their original spot, but the car is a GTA.

I also believe that the 87 were solely stick on while the 88 and 89 were bolt on. I am not 100% sure on this, I know others are mor knowlegeable than I am.

As I know it, 1987 to 1990 were made of metal and are bolted onto the bumper cover, as my own GTA emblem is. The front bumper cover emblems for the 1991 and 1992 were the plastic and just attached with the same type of tape that the fender and sail panel emblems are attached with. If I am not accurate with this, please let me know.

I disbelieve that the GM factory would assemble a 1987 GTAs front bumper cover emblem in such an incorrect location on a 1987 GTA, especially since they had to drill the holes first in the bumper cover for the emblem to be mounted. Unless someone wants to say that the GM factory was so careless and inferior with their quality of work and deliverables.

What do you mean by "Ts" Do you mean T-Top? If that is what you are meaning, I do not like those at all.....sorry. That was why I bought my GTA new with the hard top option. Also from what I have learned from members on this site, t-tops in the 1987 GTAs were not that great because the body of the car flexed too much with that material removed from the roof to make the t-top, especially if you built the engine to have more horse power. From the body flexing, the t-tops would start to leak when it rains.

Re: 1987 gta

Everybody has their own preference but, on this one, I agree with Madman3.

It's t-tops, convertible or no thirdgen for me.

Re: 1987 gta

The only thing I was not happy with when I first bought my GTA was that it had automatic, I wanted to have manual. But I also wanted to get the largest engine that it could come with too. But I got over this soon after I got my GTA. And eventually I am happy that I got the automatic instead.
