Re: some fresh pics

It is SO nice to see everyone's GTAs come out of storage for the winter!!

I got Emma out last week, too, for a "topless" drive! LOL!

Nice photos, everyone. By all means keep them coming.

I'll be getting Hector out this weekend for the Arkansas Pontiac Association show.... barring any precipitation, that is.

Surely they'll be a photo.... or twenty.... taken there. Even if he is a 10-foot-car these days.

Thanks guys and girls, glad you all liked them. The pics do the car a lot of justice though, you can't even tell my clearcoat is faded on my hood and roof. It will be getting painted sometime this year.

A friend of mine came down yesterday and detailed my interior and engine bay. I will post some of the interior once I can get a good pic outside the garage(it's raining right now).

Re: some fresh pics

Well, I have a few that I just put on photobucket that I took this morning of my GTA. They are not really that special or anything, just a few pictures that I thought would be a little interesting only to share. I have more and maybe later I can get them from my digital camera. For now, one picture of the ouside of my GTA, one of the engine and one of the spare tire. What do the paint marks on the spare tire mean? Anything important?

Re: some fresh pics

Yumiko, you have an aluminum spare and those were pretty danged rare. You have THE cleanest, all-original GTA I've ever seen. Just gorgeous.

Thank you for your compliment. Well I am not sure about the spare tire being rare or anything. It was interesting that I never had to use it though, and I drove the most miles in my GTA between 1987 and 1997. In 1999, I realized that I may not want to ever use the original spare tire, so I went to the junk yard and bought the exact same one used from a GTA there that had been totalled. So every time I would take my GTA out on a drive after 1999, I would bring the used spare tire along with me in case I needed to use it. I like that idea also because I have that spare tire full of air before I leave, so I do not have to worry about filling it with air if I have to use it. The spare tire and air canister in my picture posted here is the original ones that came with my GTA when it was brand new.

YumikoGTA that is one well kept GTA you have. Being the original owner really shows. You have taken very good care of that GTA. That engine bay is very clean.

Thank you Steveh. So you also have a 1987 GTA? If you could take some pictures of it close up and post them, I would really be interested to look at them, as most of us love to look at GTAs

Re: some fresh pics

Geat pics both Yukimo and Budfreak1.

Yukimo, how are your exhaust manifolds so clean? Did you replace them as part of your restoration or are they painted with somthing to prevent the usual rust?

Re: some fresh pics

Sorry....I did not mean to hijack anything. I thought anyone could put on some of their GTA pictures. Like Frankie said "thanks everyone....keep them coming."

Well, the exhaust manifolds have been coated with a special material. During the restoration project, many of the parts were sent to be plated and powder coated, and according to what part it is, some of the parts were treated with materials that can withstand very high tempuratures, as with the exhaust manifolds.

Another thing that keeps my GTA so clean is I stopped driving it in rain about 1998. So now after the restoration project was completed in 2003, it has not been in rain or even sprayed with hose water. Some people may laugh at that, but.....water and moisture will make your car really dirty, and also this water and moisture will make the usual rust on the exhaust system as mentioned. Also my GTA is only driven about 700 to 1000 miles per year. I have heard of the "garage queen" thing before, and yes, my GTA could be considered one of those. But also on the other side, my GTA has 259,000 miles and so it has not always been like this. In 1998, my GTA had over 200,000 miles on it. I like to consider my GTA retired now. I got the best of both worlds with it, I got to drive it every day and all over the place, then I got to restore it back to how it was when it was new, and now I get to drive my GTA like it is a well taken care of classic American sports car. I think I got to have so much fun with it.

Anyways......it is a nice day outside, even though it is just rained a little bit. Can not drive the GTA today....but maybe next weekend.

No problem Yumiko, I was just being funny.

I do not drive my GTA in the wet either just like you. I have watched too many of my beautiful cars rot away on me and I REFUSE to watch this one do it too. I plan to keep it the rest of my life and by time I am done with it, it will be a 383 powered monster.
