My superram install

As some of you may know, I have been installing an Accel Superram intake on my GTA complete with pcmforless custom tune, 24 lb. ford design III injectors, AFPR and Accel 58 MM TB and I figured I'd post some pics and an update for you all.
I must say, this is by far the hardest task I've taken on in quite some time and I don't plan to remove this thing again for quite a long time after this.

Here are pics of it as it sits right now, it should be completed today or tomorrow but I can't fire it up until I get a fuel pressure gauge which I will do as soon as I can find and afford one.

Don't really know. If I ever find a dyno shop that is still in business, I will find out when I can afford it. This little project sucked me dry.

Yeah, I would definitely never do this again if given the choice. What a PITA to install.

IT LIVES!

I fired it up tonight and it runs like a champ so far. I will get to drive it tuesday if the weather holds out like predicted. Here are some pics of the finished product, please ignore the orange gasket maker and so on, I will clean that all up soon.

I won't really know until the weather clears and I can take it out for a ride probably tuesday, but so far it seems to run very well. I'm going to go out today and fine tune it a little bit with timing and idle and so on.

Re: My superram install

Imho, it sounds like a vac leak, but that is just me..You might try swapping out your tb to your stk one just to see if that is the problem. If it doesnt chg, then you could eliminate the tb. hth

Re: My superram install

It seems timing related to me. It starts hard as if advanced too far which is making me wonder if I'm not still a tooth off. It's set at 6 degrees base timing.

Re: My superram install

I figured out the tuning issues and got it running good. It needed more fuel pressure and the timing lights advance knob was turned halfway up(oops).
Now the new problem is I have a high idle. I had the throttle plates closed all the way but it was idling at about 900 RPM. Any ideas guys?

Re: My superram install

I found the issue with the high idle. It is leaking around the runner to plenum gaskets. We are trying to smear gasket maker around the inside of the runner tubes as a last ditch effort before having to yank off the plenum and redo it.

Re: My superram install

Well, it was inevitable so we tore it all back apart today. It's looking like the gasket maker we used was to blame. We used carquest brand copper gasket maker and it didn't stick at certain points on the runners at all and didn't stick to the base manifold at all. I'm going to buy a new gasket set from Summit tomorrow. Does anybody have a preferred brand of gasket maker to use for this type of job? Also, we found 3 loose bolts so should we be using a little thread locker on all the bolts?
Any advice would be great guys and thanks in advance.

There is and I used it. The directions call for silicone on the gaskets and I apparently used the wrong kind.

Re: My superram install

We got it running!
Turns out we had two mistakes against us.
1. we had the lower runner gaskets switched so they didn't seal right.
2. didn't clean the surfaces before gasketmaker.

It runs excellent now it seems, but threw a check engine code after some highway use. I ran it about 200 miles yesterday and other than a slightly tempermental idle and CEL, it drove great. I will check out the CEL today and then it's wash time.
