1 of 1?

Maybe not, but definitely one of very few.

I got my GM archives paperwork today, and...it's a real GTA. Woo-hoo!

Also learned it was originally a 3.42 posi car. Never thought to look for that cause never thought it would have that, but i checked and sure enough it's still there! Only 78 in North America in 1990, and only 15 came to Canada!

Now of those 15 cars, how many could possibly be 305tpi, WC 5-speed, black on black leather t-tops? I'm guessing not very many. I'm gonna phone George and get him to crunch those numbers for me, if he can.

Regardless, it's a real GTA - that's all i was concerned about.

Now if only it was in anything close to original condition

Cool car, I always liked black on black As for build numbers, I cant tell you how many were black on black leather with t-tops but all 5 speed manual cars have two things in common - LB9 (305TPI) engines and 3.42 gears. RPO G80 posi rears were standard also.

Re: 1 of 1?

Could have also had 3.45:1 gears, depended on the rear end type, 7.625" for 9 bolt 3.45:1. And 7.5" for 10 bolt, 3.42:1.

The 9 bolts had a little more "meat" to them which is one of the reasons they stand up better in the long run.

Neat to learn that your car is in fact a GTA

they sure are! thanks for the comments guys. i was hesitant to put a lot of money into her if she wasn't a gta, but i guess i'm gonna have ta spend the buck now. it'll be slow going (3 kids, no time, no space, no extra money!!!), but the foundation is good - she's got no rust, you could eat of the floors, the panels are nice and straight and the engine pulls strong. i'm looking forward to it actually, as the wife forced a sale of all the projects last year (boy was she pissed when this one showed up in her "cleared" driveway - hehe).

thanks again

Hi cdn1990

Well we have brother cars. I have one of those 1990 5 speed, rpo G80 rear ends, t top, black cars and black leather wonder cars. They are loads of fun! Looking forward to seeing your project.

Cool. All i've got is the "before" shots so far - pretty ugly paint. should make a nice before/after contrast when i'm done. i'll get the pic up this weekend and introduce myself properly here.

Re: 1 of 1?

Mine's pretty but I class it as a 20 footer for the paint, of course on a nice bright day the black shines so bright it blinds your eyes.

Not in 1990,cars from 1987-1989 used the 9 bolt (3.45 manual gearset) and 1990-1992 used the 10 bolt (3.42 manual gearset).

Also the 9 bolt is 7.75" ring gear and the 10 bolt used in GTA's (and thirdgens built somewhere after 1986 or so) used the 7.625" ring gear but are otherwise identical to the earlier rears that used the 7.5" ring gear.

Re: 1 of 1?

Mine is an 88 GTA that has the digital dash, black on black leather, 5 speed, non T-Top, 3.45 gear. I believe it has every option except T-Tops. I wondered the same thing about how many were made like this as well.. You are right the 5 speeds are fun...especially with a chip and a 3.73 and a K&N air filter. It was fun pulling away from 5.0 Mustangs. Still trying to get the damn thing going again. I miss driving it.
