Self adjusting rear view mirror?

I've had my 87 GTA for 3 years now....Tonight, it decided to do something new.

Car wreck ahead...Stuck in traffic (at night)....My rearview mirror suddenly adjusted itself, reducing headlight glare from behind.

WTF? My mirror just moved......Musta hit a bump, but at 2mph? Hmmmmm....Then goes back, and shifts again. Back & forth this keeps happening.

I finally made the connection of WHAT it was doing & WHEN. But why suddenly start this? Hasn't done it in the 3 years I've owned the car. I've never even heard of these cars having this before.

Re: Self adjusting rear view mirror?

mine works ok. I do not drive at night very often so I do not get a chance to use it. Kind of a cool feature though. Tandy

Re: Self adjusting rear view mirror?

I think all of the '87 GTAs had the self dimming mirror, the bump may have joggled something to where it started working.

Re: Self adjusting rear view mirror?

I bought a few from wreaking yards, to install in my earlier Trans Ams, just haven't gotten around to it yet.
I like it.
My Mom's Caddy has it, and it works great.
Maybe a wire was loose.

Re: Self adjusting rear view mirror?

Mine was unplugged when I bought the car so I plugged it in. Sometimes I think its too sensitive no matter what setting I put it on. I too dont drive at night very often but I do remember getting annoyed by it one night this past Summer.

Re: Self adjusting rear view mirror?

I have one in my car. It doesn't work though and I've thought about swapping it for one with reading lights instead.
