Need some advice

I have been thinking about selling my GTA, just playing around with the idea. Due to working circumstances I drive my car about 2 weeks a year and thats it. I just took her out for what is probably the last drive untill this time next year. I am fourtunate in the sense that I am not forced to sell it however I just hate the idea of having it sit for over 11 months of the year.

The conflict is that this is my first car. It was the car I have always wanted and dreamed of owning since my Uncle bought his used back in 1994.

My question for everybody is, do you always wish you still had that first car? Was there some kind of special bond unlike any of the others cars you have ever owned?

Ive even had a few offers already well over what I paid for the car but I just don't think I could do it.

Re: Need some advice

Yes, I still miss my first "real" car a 1975 Camaro Type LT with a 350 in it. It had a lot of cool stuff we take for granted now. unfortunately an 8pt Buck liked it better.

My first car lasted 6 months( if that), and I paid 75 buckd for it. It was a 1965 Biscayne sw, with 10 tons of bondo. The starter went out and back then it cost more for the part than I paid for the car, so I gave it away. :BG

Re: Need some advice

If at all possible I would highly recommend keeping your first car. Especially if it is a "cool" ride like a GTA. I wish I had my first car back all the time. My Son swears he learned from my mistake and that he will keep his 96 z 28 forever. Tandy

Re: Need some advice

My first car was a 1954 Mercury Monterey.... and I still have it. Even though it is in disrepair and hasn't run in over 20 years, I continue to take some sort of weird pride in still having it.

My first Trans Am was a 1981 Turbo 4.9L car and, all snickering aside, I would give almost anything to have it back again. It was destroyed by an engine fire in August of '88. Even though its insurance pay-off helped me get into my red GTA and eventually get all this website stuff started, I miss it terribly.

As for the first GTA, well.... as most all of you know, I still have IT. It will be 20 years on September 23.

So is there something to be said for keeping your first car.... absolutely. But one does what they must at any given time, and no apologies need be made for that.

Re: Need some advice

Well ... I guess that I'll throw in my .02 worth here.

As we all go through different stages of our lives, things around us will always naturally change. I have missed several cars that I have owned in the past but most of them were not nearly as rare and unique as a GTA. I can honestly say that I do miss my first car the most and I would love to have it back again. It was a '69 Pontiac LeMans SS that I totaled at age 16 (the only accident that I have ever had KOW). It had also been in our family for many years like your first car was. Your car seems to be in fabulous condition and it seems the only real reason that you are considering letting it go is lack use. I don't know how old you are right now but I can tell you that as you get a little older, to have your first car still in exceptional condition will be priceless. You will never be able to replace it with another car that is just like it if you wanted to and even if you found one close, it just wouldn't be the same.

So anyway ... I think that you would miss it greatly especially as the years go by. Hopefully you will decide to keep it but only YOU can really know what's best for you. Based on your statements in the OP, I think that it would be a big mistake to let it go.

I wish I could have my first Firebird back...a 1976 Firebird Esprit. That was a cool car. As for my first GTA...I'll be holding onto it for as long as I can.

Re: Need some advice

I sold my first Firebird, a 1972 regular base Firebird.
However, I did keep my very first Trans Am, a regular 455, as well as the only 2 new cars I have ever bought.
I have sold quite a few Trans Ams that I use to own, and I miss some of them.

Louvers,
What is a Le Mans SS?
I know what a Le Mans is, but never ever saw anything with SS attached to it, except for Chevys.

Just wondering,

George

Re: Need some advice

Nice ride for a 1st car!!!

mine was a 73 Monte Carlo 350. It didnt come with the optional anchors!!!

I miss that thing as the full power steering let you drive at 130MPH with your pinky finger!~!

George .... my apology. I always call that car a LeMans and it technically wasn't. It was a cross between the LeMans and a GTO and they called it a Custom S (not SS). I was only 16 when I had this car and it was a blast .... I should tell the story of how I wrecked it sometime ... It's like a scene out of a movie

Anyway ... here's a link to a similar car but not quite as nice as the one that I had.

Re: Need some advice

Ah,
I remember the custom S version.
I was wondering if you made up your own version, kinda a cross of the Le Mans, and the Chevy SS.
Nice cars!
