try to find my RPO codes

I want to know where i must look for my rpo sheet. I know you said under the glove box in the car, but i'm not sure i understand well. How can i look under the glove box, especially with the fact that there is no glove box in a Trans Am. Just a kind of small place to put on some papers. And if it's there, where must i look? i must deplace the whole datch to see below?

well sorry if a sound like a newbie, but i'm actually french and i dont know where to look at all. maybe the rpo sheet have been removed from my car, i don't know.

Re: try to find my RPO codes

It's either on the little door of the glove box, or in the center console where you rest your arm and put all your papers etc.

It will be a sticker with your VIN, a ton of 3 digit codes and a big black border saying DO NOT REMOVE

Re: try to find my RPO codes

Re: try to find my RPO codes

The glove box is the little compartment in the back of your hatch area that uses the trunk key.

Sometimes the RPO sheets are located on the inside door of the "glove box"

The left over glue in the center console is what is left of your RPO sheet. Just like mine

Try looking underneath the seats. I've heard of them being under there to.

The car's build sheet might be under the seats.... but there was only one RPO label on the inside wall of the console "glovebox".

And you cannot get another one from GM, either.

You can get copies of them from that TurboBuick guy. I forgot his website, but its the one with all the pop-ups. Ring any bells.

Re: try to find my RPO codes

I found that thread regarding the RPO stickers. Here it is: http://www.gtasourcepage.com/forum/s...ad.php?t=50282

IDK if I would recommend it though.

Re: try to find my RPO codes

Sadly, my GTA also was missing the RPO sheet from the centre console. But a trip to my local GM dealership and a visit to the parts counter with the VIN number and they printed off the RPO codes for me (all 8 pages)!! That will at least give you the listing of all the options your car came with.

Re: try to find my RPO codes

I'm wondering if the local Pontiac dealership can do that for me as well.

Re: try to find my RPO codes

From what the guys at the parts counter told me, at least for the dealership near me, they get a lot of requests from guys who are restoring various GM cars and so they do this as a free service. So, give it a try.

Re: try to find my RPO codes

What year GTA do you have? I tried a local dealership for one of my 1988 GTAs, and was told pretty much the standard story (as read on TGO) that dealerships generally only have some on file for 1989+. A few have gotten them for a 1988.

My dealership had no records for my 1988 GTA. I wonder if giving the VIN to someone who was lucky to get it for the 1988 GTA from another dealership would result in success? That's why I ask what year your GTA is.

Re: try to find my RPO codes

Anybody pull this off, on a '87? I've lost my SPID sticker, so if I could do this for my '87, that would be great!

Re: try to find my RPO codes

My GTA is an '88 and as I have mentioned previously, I had no problem getting the RPO codes from my GM dealer. I certainly don't mind giving it a try for anyone interested.

Re: try to find my RPO codes

I tried both my '88s last week and got zip from my dealer.... just that my car's were valid VINs. They told me the older cars and trucks are "hit and miss" on running RPO codes.

Gary, if you don't mind running one of my cars, I'll PM you the VIN. Let me know.

Re: try to find my RPO codes

Hi Frankie:

I went to my GM dealership today and tried running those VINs for you. Same story as you - the VIN shows as valid, but no RPOs. As a test, I ran the VIN for my 1989 Firebird and got all the numbers. They also told me that the new system goes back to 1980 and they have prior years on microfiche. Very puzzling for them as the Assistant Parts Manager said they have never had this happen. However, they did give me a number for Vintage Vehicle Services (same as Pontiac Historical?) at 1-888-467-6853, which for a fee, may be able to help.

So, I'm wondering if this lack of RPO data is something peculiar to notchback GTAs.

Gary.
