1988 GTA Notchback

Last night I struck a deal with a friend of mine to buy his '88 notch! I am very excited. He took the car off the road a few years ago to paint her and clean it up a bit. Well the years have come and gone, he still hasn't gotten her painted, it's still half apart in his garage, he has lost interest, so now it's mine.

It's a digital dashed, leather trimmed, hardtop, L98/700R4, red in color car. It is indeed a real GTA and notchback. All the proper codes are there. The only down side is it is a high mileage car. When it came off the road 2 years ago or so it had 250,000+ km's (Canadian, we live on the east coast of Canada) on the car. That would be almost 200,000 in miles. Mechanically the car is great. It was running 14.0's @ 100mph with nothing more than a converter, shift kit, headers and exhaust.

I'll be bringing it home later this week. I will snap some pics of her in her current condition and I will keep updating my progress. My plan is too finish what he started. I will strip it down the rest of the way, paint her, replace any interior peices that are worn, and so on and so on. The plan is too have a clean, rare notchback for car shows and cruise nights. I can't wait!!

Re: 1988 GTA Notchback

Good to hear from another original Notchback owner. I've had 3 original Notchbacks at one time! When you feel you're at a stage to show off your Notchback, please submit a few photos to me.

You can visit my website as it has some material for the Notchback:

(Note not trying to steal you away from this website - I don't have a message board like Frankie - owner of this website).

Re: 1988 GTA Notchback

Finally, here are some pics. It's going to be alot of work but it is going to be worth it!! My friend had begun the process of stripping hee to be painted but never finished it. His loss is my gain!

Ain't she beautiful!

I'll post some more pics as I continue to take her apart.

Yes it is. That is a Dodge Avenger that has run a best e/t of 8.84, and it is street legal. Even the factory alarm still works!!! It is quite a machine!

They are supposed to IF you have them, but if not, and you turn the motor up then thats what happens.

Re: 1988 GTA Notchback

I found one of these on my red car this weekend (very small) and that car has definitely never been hot-rodded in its entire existence. Nor has it even been driven in any sort of normal manner for years. My black car has them on both sides, and I know it was a daily driver before I got it.

So I'd be more inclined to say that those cracks also can be caused by everyday driving over time.

Re: 1988 GTA Notchback

Yea all the late 80's big gm car has or had, or got them, hehe, my gn had them before I painted it and it was driven pretty easy before I redone it. They make subframe connectors for our cars that cut out most of that. Like Cliff said, if you play with the motor your gonna need somthing, lol
