Re: My GTA is in the Shop...

stick with the SLP kit, if you have a cold air induction, you don't really need to replace it. The cold air box fits nicely in the pass side battery tray to pull cold air directly from the fender area away from the hot engine.

Yes, the one on ebay appears to be a metal pipe so think of it this way. When air passes thru that "hot" pipe( due to under hood temps) what will happen to the air? It gets hot so you are basically heatin up the air. When you do that you loose ponies. The SLP kit will work fine.I have had one fer years now.

Re: My GTA is in the Shop...

well i just removed the canister and the old stock airbox from the passenger side and i noticed that there is a black metal peice there... i took that out and there is a empty square like space there with a few bolt holes there.. my question is that if i cut out that entire square area (where the canister and airbox used to be) would that help along with the slp intake because if i cut the square space there will be a big square hole there where air can just come up there to go into the slp intake box.... would this be a good idea...

You have to move it to the other side or find a new location for it. I just mounted mine to the dr side strut tower.

Re: My GTA is in the Shop...

You need to extend the wiring harness for the charcoal canister and get some new rubber hoses to extend for the charcoal canister.

Get all the stuff extended and run the hoses and the connector through the holes in the metal plate to underneath the fender.

With the SLP kit, if you were to cut out the metal plate underneath, it wouldn't really do anything because the SLP kit is sealed on the top and bottom and has a large intake hole that sits right over the hole in the side fender area.

You should know what im talking about when you look to the fender area.

I don't have the car at home so I can't take pictures of what i'm talking about.

Once that is done, you need to either make a small bracket or use some heavy duty nylon ties to secure the charcoal canister to the fender brace inside the fender area. This will all be hidden underneath and out of the way.

Mount your SLP box as per instructions. You don't have to worry about cluttering things up on one side or running a lot of hoses/vacuum lines across the engine bay.

Re: My GTA is in the Shop...

well i have a question how would this setup work for my car.... it will look much better when i buy black hoses and connect them up.. this is just a thought... would this help my car in any way.... i removed the airbox and put a open K&N air filter on there.... and had a hose to bring cold air from the outside its hard to explain but you will figure it out when you see these pictures...

and here is a video of it

http://vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?fu...deoID=16750222

Re: My GTA is in the Shop...

Yeah...about that hose lol

Honestly, use the SLP setup, the "stock" looking bellows actually have steel plates inside them to help direct and smooth airflow. Use the SLP cold air kit when it arrives, don't use drier hose to try to make a CAI kit. It's not really conducive to the well being of your car.

As for the open element filter? It looks like it's just the stock style of K&N that you just stuck over the end of the intake bellow.

Move the charcoal canister into the area where you pulled the drier hose through.

Re: My GTA is in the Shop...

Here is the one I made for my car Its just a stock 88+ elbow, a piece of 3 inch carbon fiber tubing, 90 degree bend and a cone filter. It made a big improvement in throttle response and you can actually hear the engine sucking in air now.

Re: My GTA is in the Shop...

I agree with Subliminal. I have a K&N setup in my GTA lined up as his. Mine came from a Corvette (so I am led to believe) and I still have the cannister right beside it. The only concern I have is that there is only about 1/16 to 1/8 clearance with the air conditioning pulley. On the other hand, when the engine is turning over, you can definitely hear the sweet sound of air being drawn into that engine - even if its only a 305 (lol).

Best regards,

Gary.
