GTA Rims HELP!

Hey everyone i got a question.

I have a 91 GTA with 91 GTA rims.

So just recently i bought some GTA rims off ebay and they are different than my 91 rims; so im thinking there from an older model GTA?

So my question is this; are older GTA rims compatible with my 91 GTA? Im just asking for safety. They fit tight but i just wanted to check and make sure they were ok to use.

91 GTA rims

Ebay rims

Re: GTA Rims HELP!

Those aren't real GTA rims, sorry. eBay was your first mistake. LOTS of scammers on there. Lots of good people, but you've gotta watch out for the scammers. Hope ya didn't get ripped off, thinking they were real GTA rims. The only difference there ever was, were the little "dimples"/"notches" at the ends of the spokes, but the polished lip, like on your first pic. Is the eBay auction still up? I'm curious if they posted them *AS* GTA rims.

Fieros had similar looking rims, but they are 15" ones. Are your newones 15"s or 16"? ALL GTA rims were 16" x 8", regardless of if they wre the 87 ones, or the 88-92.

Well thats a kick in the teeth; they are the same size as my GTA rims 16x8.

I didnt pay alot for the rims i really just wanted a spare set of rims; but if these fake GTA rims will work i wont be too disapointed.

So how can i find out if these rims will be safe for my car? They have the same bolt pattern; the rims go on flush/smooth and even.

Re: GTA Rims HELP!

Do all 4 have the same backspacing? All 3rd gen 16" wheels, Camaro & Firebirds, have deeper backspacing on the rears, making them look shallower, than the fronts.

No casting #s or name on the back of them? I'm betting aftermarket. I think all the Fiero ones are 15".

As for safety regarding supporting the weight of your car, etc., my GUESS is they would be OK, if the bolt pattern matched. I can't think of any really light, AND higher HP/torque, cars that share the bolt pattern, but my guess is I'm wrong there, as the GM bolt pattern is pretty universal across the GM line. I'm betting light cars sure, but they had low HP/torque #s. Except for the Corvette, of course.

What you've got there is a set of the old American Racing Equipment (ARE) diamond-spoke knock-offs. They were offered back in the day in both 15 and 16-inch sizes. I came close more than once to putting a set of them on my red GTA when it had the original Ronal R9 rims on it, but I held out for a set of new OEM wheels instead.

If they are in good shape, there's no reason why those wheels should not work and perform just fine on your car.

Re: GTA Rims HELP!

Yeah, you'll be fine with American Racing wheels. It's a good-standing company, not some brand new import maker.

If you are satisfied with tehm, I guess that is what is important!

Re: GTA Rims HELP!

Oh ok well thats good to know they pack some quality in them. Although i am a bit disappointed there not real GTA rims *i guess thats what i get for buying impulsively, they came from ontario and i wanted to find some GTA rims from canada to aviod paying extra charges usa/canada border* but on the bright side these rims are in near to perfect shape aside from some scratches on the paint.

I just want to thank you two, for the quick info it really saved me from frustration.

IMO, just keeo them and have them on the car and have yours referb'd. That way should somethin ever happen you have your originals. Kinda like spares.

That is what i had in mind, my two rear real GTA rims are dinged and dented and are in need of some refurbishing, but right now i got 2 real GTA rims on the front and the ARE ones on the back it looks kinda cool.

They are different but your right to the average person wouldnt know the difference. I didnt pay to much for them so im still happy with my purchase; if they didnt fit my car it woulda been a different story.

Re: GTA Rims HELP!

You could always use the ARE wheels for drag racing, just put on a set of ET Street Radials on them. You could try getting ahold of Kelvin's in Saskatoon to see if they can refurbish your rear rims.
