You should be able to get them thru your local parts store.

Re: 383

Coolness. I'm debating on whether or not to replace parts of the accessories while I'm at it (ie: water pump, power steering pump, etc.). Cliff, do you or anyone else know what size(s) of vacuum hose is on our cars? I probably better pick up some of that stuff as well so all of the bad lines can be replaced. I'm pretty sure that some are OEM...LOL!

Re: 383

The vacuum hoses are all sorts of different sizes...
It's hard to say...

Most of the lines that run underneath the intake plenum are hard plastic lines with connectors on the ends, others range from 3/16" to 5/8"

If I were you, when you get into it, take the old hoses with you and match them up with the right sizes at the store, I find that to be the easiest when you have the old part in hand and need to "make a face like it" lol

Re: 383

Unfortunately I'm not going to be the one doing the work of pulling the motor and putting it back in. Last time I did that...let's just say it turned out very, very bad. What I'd like to do is gather parts so that I don't have to take a huge hit all at once for it.

Re: 383

On the vac hoses if a shop is doin it just let them replace them the vac hose is cheap and they will have to remove it anyway so they shouldnt have to chg you any extra labor.

Re: 383

Okay. Do you think I should also change out my accessories to be on the safe side? There'll be a new belt put on, I'd just hate to get the car running and then say the alternator goes out because that's just how I roll...LOL! It'd be my luck that one of the accessories would fail.

Re: 383

i wouldn't get new accessories unless you need them. that's just added cost to the whole equation. i think you'll find the stroker kit, extra costs, labor costs will cost you more then you already want to spend.

i run felpro gaskets on my car.

Re: 383

I was quoted appxly 1850cdn for machine work, gaskets, 383 kit from eagle, balanced and assembled and ready for pick up in 3 weeks so expect to spend about that + any costs of re and re.

I wanted to build a 396 small block and that was going to run me appxly $4300 from the same place. Now thats scary lol

Re: 383

If I use a ZZ4 cam what should I have my timing set at? How much should I have it advanced above the factory setting? Just curious so I can relay that information when I have the chip burned.

Re: 383

That will depend on how much compression you are going to have. You really wont know until you fire the motor and set the timin. I would say initial hmm at least 10-12 degrees advanced depending on compression and fp. You can actually run more cam with that stroker, IMO, I think the ZZ9 cams is one od the best with a 383 TPI. But thats just me.

Re: 383

So the ZZ4 won't be enough?

The reason I ask about the timing is because I'm also going to order the chip and have that in my stack of parts that I take in so thy can install that once teh motor is in the car. If it isn't there the car will probably run like crap so setting the timing would be rather difficult, right?

Re: 383

i would say start at 10 degress timing, 12 might work but you can't just assume that. it all depends on the car really. you can run a zz4 cam no problem with a 383, you'll want to run 1.6 rockers though to give it the added lift. the duration is kinda low though. an ideal cam would be zz4 lift with more duration on a 112 lsa.

Re: 383

You lost me there at the end Munson. The ZZ4 will be ideal except...? A lot of this is still confusing.

except the somewhat low duration. comp cams would probably have a cam better suited for the motor you plan to build. i'd try to find something that's 1500-5k/5.5k rpm powerband, with duration around 220-230 on both sides, and a 112 lsa.

Re: 383

How will the low duration affect performance?

BTW...heads came in today. Still need a little cleaning up, but I'm looking forward to putting them on the new motor.

Re: 383

lower duration = more low end tq. Higher duration moves tq up the rpm band. Click here
and hopefully this will explain it better.
