383

Anyone have some good part numbers for a decent 383 rebuild kit? I'm just looking at another option for trying to get my car back on the road.

Re: 383

look at cnc motorsports on ebay. they have eagle kits at good prices. i'm going to get one for my car, i just haven't yet. i know 2 local people running them in their L98 motors. 1 with a TFS/miniram motor and the other is an AFR/hsr motor.

Re: 383

Will those kits change the compression ratio on our motors? I'll also be running my Edelbrock intake and SLP runners with the 383 on top of some L98 aluminum heads (hopefully). Will a ZZ4 be enough cam?

Re: 383

you can get different pistons in the kit to determine compression ratio, you can also use a different head gasket to help modify it.

if you're keeping the stock LTR style intake then yeah the zz4 would be enough for a daily driver. if you want more power i'd get a cam with more duration.

Re: 383

Thanks Cliff and Munson. The garage I normally deal with has a dumb@$$ for a machinist that tried to tell me that I couldn't put a FI 383 in my car and that I was going to have to buy a new intake and carb to make it work. Yeah...this guy is an idiot. I guess that means those on here that are running 383s are also running carbs too, huh? -rolleyes-

Re: 383

to put in a 383 kit you will need some machine work done. you'll need to have the pistons pressed onto the rods, the block clearanced, and the old cam bearings pressed out and the new bearings pressed in.

Re: 383

Actually with a Eagle kit the rod bolts have already been clipped so there is no need for clearencing the blk or a sm base circle cam. Eagle has a brand new street kit out thats really nice. Its perfect for a TPI motor.

Re: 383

Hey thought I would step in...

I bought the eagle kit over the winter and made a 383 stroker from my TPI. I got 10.5:1 compression with a little bigger pistons due to my block size. It's got forged crank, and forged "I" beam rods with forged pistons. Real nice setup, and good for almost 1000HP.

I'm running a ported HSR intake and ported Trick Flow Heads with a fairly heavy Comp Cams camshaft. Very streetable and even with the cam the car has no idle problems nor does it stall out.
I just tuned the car and made 386RWHP & 395RWTQ with a real flat dyno graph. Not to mention She pulls now till 6500RPM!!!

Unfortunitly I blew the driveshaft on the last pull, popped the "U" joints, busted the shaft itself, and cracked the tail stock of the tranny. so...back on the host she goes..

And pretty interesting...I made an additional 14RWHP from 5500RPM+ without the SLP intake box on...

Let me knOW!

I DLd the files from the website Cliff. Did I miss the price list? Maybe it didn't DL since I'm working off dial-up right now. I don't know. Comparatively, I was looking at a kit through Summit for around $1100. Are these kits from Eagle cheaper or more expensive? Thanks.

Re: 383

Well some are and some arent. THe # to look at is this # B13404L030 its what they call their street perf kit. Oh and you will have to specify what size flywheel you will need which should be a 153 tooth. Oh and call this # 423-442-4835 and ask for Ronny he is in Tenn and he can get it drop shipped to you it will have some serious frt on it as well, though. hth Oh and tell him I sent you.

Re: 383

check out these kits.

kit 1

kit 2

they also have a couple of kits with dish pistons if you're looking for lower compression, or you could use one of the flat top kits with an .041 head gasket instead of an .038.

Re: 383

Thanks fellas.

I'm not understanding the difference between internally and externally balanced crank. Other than that...what's the difference between the two assemblies?

Re: 383

With an externally bal motor a motor is balanced with wts on the flywheel and a larger harmonic dampner( balancer), and an internally bal eng is done by reducing or adding wt to the the crank, rods, and pistons. It makes them run smoother and last longer. hth

Re: 383

internal balance uses neutral weight flexplate and harmonic balancer, external uses both weighted.

Re: 383

most people consider internal balance to be better, i personally don't think it matters, if it's balanced... it's balanced.
