What Collector Car Insurance do you use?

What Collector Car Insurance do you use?

After I get finished painting the TTA ( and its getting really close to completeion ), I will be looking to insure both the TTA and my 87 GTA with a Collector Car Insurance Company. Both for the money savings and the fact it would help dealing with a company that understands collector type cars if anything ever happens. I am currently with State Farm Insurance and they have been absolutly great to deal with but I very rarely drive these 2 cars and want to be able to cut back a little on the out going cost of insurance premiums. However I also want the cars very well insured in the event that something did happen.

Just thought I would see what comapnies you all used and if you would mind telling me what you pay a year for the coverage. I would also be interested in the type of coverage you have also. If you dont feel comfortable posting it in the open forum, but dont mind telling me then Please PM me.

I'll check with my buddy that has a '69 Camaro, and a TTA. See what he says/has.

Re: What Collector Car Insurance do you use?

Joe,I insure with Grundy,[url]www.grundy.com,my 87 GTA cost $135 a year, unlimited mileage,I sent them several e-mail pics, they did not require a apprasil, agreed value is $10K.My 94 25th convertible is also with them.Having said all that,I have never had a claim, and thats probably where a guy finds out how good his insurer is, you probably will get a lot of feedback on that subject! I went with Grundy because a lot of my friends do.Hope this helps.

Re: What Collector Car Insurance do you use?

Joe,

I have my Corvette insured with State Farm on a collectors policy for $225 annual on a 25k policy. There are mileage restrictions however but if you have a good agent they should be able to work with you. I choose to stay with State Farm mainly because I know they will honer any claims should one occur. For some, State Farm is on the high side but I do have excellent rates overall and it doesn't hurt that I have six vehicles insured with them. I currently have my GTA on a regular insurance policy with them but I am going to change it over as well because I get to drive it so little.

I can't say for certain but my guess would be that the higher the valuation, the more restrictive and costly the insurance will become.

Good luck!

Darrell

I have 3 that I have insured; a 04 Camry and a 98 Daodge Ram 1500 2wd. and with life ins on me and hte wife and the youngest one in UTI, and the homeowners we pay around 280 a month. I feel like I amd ins poor.

Re: What Collector Car Insurance do you use?

I looked on the Grundy site, and following the NADA link to see the value, the only car I could choose resulted in a Grand Prix, whether I did 2dr coupe, or 2 dr sport/convertible.

No matter what, I couldn't get a Trans Am listed anywhere.

But, a Grundy quote came out $90/yr cheaper than my State Farm/6 month policy! That means, I would save $347 PER YEAR! And I just renewed my State Farm a couple of weeks ago. Gonna see about switching, and getting my $ back! And, the price I pay with State Farm, includes the discount with Renter's Insurance too!

Re: What Collector Car Insurance do you use?

I use these guys.. http://www.americancollectorsins.com/index.php My TTA is insured for 35K with them and my GN is insured for 20K with them. Had one little claim on the GN. Rock flew up on the way home from a car show and cracked the windsheild and they sent me to a local glass place and it was replaced right there without a dime out of pocket and no questions or paper work to fill out. $583.00 a year for both cars full coverage. The are owned by Infinity now. Most of these classic car insurance companys are just levels of an investment company. Their number is.. 800-787-7637 They are all about the same just call around and see what one offers what your looking for.

Re: What Collector Car Insurance do you use?

I did the Grundy quote. Just waiting for verification on the online quote. I certainly wouldn't mind saving $347/year!

I surfed over to http://www.americancollectorsins.com but I use Firefox for a browser, and the site didn't work with Firefox. I got a screen message saying that I needed to use Microcrap IE. I lost my voice in my wreck, so a phone call to them isn't possible. Oh well. I don't deal with people/companies who restrict communication, REQUIRING stuff, much less Microcrap.

Re: What Collector Car Insurance do you use?

wow, no millage restrictions. thats sweet. i might have to look into this. my GTA sees "daily" type use. in 18 months i have put a little under 10K on it. and i drive the other one MORE. in the 5 years i have owned my 1986 2.8L firebird i have put almost 50K on it.

the millage restrictions have always been what has prevented my from putting collectors insurance on it.

Dont forget with Grundy no one is allowed to drive the car under 25 AND you will need to have at least 2 other cars and it must be in a LOCKED garage. hth

Also, Grundy prohibits 1) any form of daily vehicle use or use as back-up transportation, and 2) any form of racing or other motorsport activities. Mileage is not restricted per se, but usage most definitely is.

Cliff is correct.... the vehicles must be stored in a locked garage or shop; I had to submit photos of mine with my application.

Re: What Collector Car Insurance do you use?

This is all great info guys.... Thanks for all the input. I as well have several cars ( 1987 GTA, 1989 TTA, 1991 GTA, 2000 Ram Air Trans Am, 1992 4WD Suburban, 2000 Z-71 Chevy Truck ) insured with State Farm. I know a guy will never be able to rid himself of auto insurance unless he happens to be independantly wealthy, and I dont see that happening anytime soon. I am just trying to make it as painless as possible on a month to month basis.
