Cool How rare is that?

Hi Folks,

I'm a lucky new owner of an 88 GTA notchback. Well, seems if I really got a loaded GTA notchback: it has
-AA8 notchback
-GM3 3.45 axle with the Borg Warner 5-speed manual
-LB9 5.0 HO engine
-UQ7 speaker system w/ subwoofer and gain control
-U52 digital dash
-662 Beachwood Leather

I just want to know a rough figure of the combo manual 5-speed and notchback, do you have any ball-park numbers?

Re: How rare is that?

I don't have time to sift through the numbers on the main page... if you look on there.. you may be able to crunch some numbers and get an idea for yourself.. but it sounds pretty rare to me.. hell, you have a notchback!! Thats rare in itself, stop being greedy :P lol... just kidding man.. congrats!

Re: How rare is that?

Well, if I get the numbers correct on the main page, there were 624 (or 713) notchbacks produced in 1988.
Then we know that out of the 9,765 1988s GTAs, there were 809 optioned with the 5-speed manual. Which gives us an estimate of about every 12th GTA being a manual.
If that ratio also applies for the notchbacks, that would mean that 624 / 12 = 52 notchbacks with the 5-speed would have been produced; pretty damn rare if that really holds true

So my question is: are you with me on my calculations? And do you know any other notchback with the 5-speed manual?

If the notchbacks were really aimed at elderly people, the manual option could be even rarer on the notchbacks...

Whaddaya mean with nuts - you think I am nuts to calculate all this, or you think my GTA is just over-the-edge-rare?

I just wrote PHS-online a mail with all this info, lets see if they reply

I will post pictures on the weekend, that is, if that is welcome

Re: How rare is that?

Congrats on being a fellow Notchback owner. I currently have 3 factory Notchbacks, all 3 being 350 hardtop editions.

From my small findings, it seems to me that the T-Top 305 5-speed was the rarer of them, as I hardly see many of them.

My website has a letter from Pontiac stating that there was 718 Notchbacks produced in 1988.

Hi, I already visited you website, good find

Your numbers support my theory that a T-Top 5-speed notchback is extremely rare, nice. You state that you hardly see many, but the question is: has anybody ever seen another T-Top 5-speed? I have found no reference to such a notchback yet...

Re: How rare is that?

eckoman, search the net for that car.. i bet you'll find a few out there. a couple weeks ago I was at my machine shop, I took a look at a car under a tarp. It was a mint condition, factory ford race car, looked almost like a thunderbolt and had a crazy looking hood scoop with wire mesh. The owner of the shop owns it, and it is 1 of the 2 cars ford ever built like that.

Re: How rare is that?

Yes, I've seen some 305 5-speed t-top Notchbacks.

There was no 350 5-speed in the GTA (including Notchback) or Trans Am.

Re: How rare is that?

Okay, I know that there were never any 350 5-speeds, but do you agree that a 5-speed t-top Notchback is rarer than an automatic t-top?

Still, I think that there were by no means more that 60 5-speed t-top Notchbacks produced.

Hopefully PHS-online will answer my request.

It sure is, and I do not know which one it is exactly. But I want to sell it and mount the original spoiler.

Are you interested or know somebody who wants that spoiler? It is for Vettes, thats for sure.

Re: How rare is that?

Hey, nice car. IMHO, you should lose the hood bird though... :-D Anyway, I know somebody who may want the spoiler. Has it been modified in any way to fit the GTA? How much would you be willing to sell it for?

It IS a nice collector cars, as there are only a few minor things not original. I just need to replace the spoiler with the original one, the steering wheel + radio and the hoodbird - thats it!
Of course I am bringing this baby back to full bone-stock, as that makes it worth more.
