my 88 gta is stock
i want to modify it mostly in performance i have been looking at several parts like heads, shift kits, and intake kits i need to know every spec possible for my car so that i purchase the correct parts and the best possible combination from the air filter to the exhaust tips. i know that there are many different opinions on what the best upgrades are but if i can at least know what i am starting with IN DETAIL i can go from there i am wondering how i can find out every thing i need to know about my 350 tpi so i can open a catalog and start ordering parts this is my first major project and i dont want to say to myself "i wish i would have done things a little different" after the engine is already back in the car any advise would be nice, thanks |

Re: what are the specs for 350 tpi?
Well, you have an 88 TPI motor. Chances are, you have a single cat exhaust setup. Just buy aftermarket exhaust catback kits made for your car's specific year, as well as any other parts which you might want to purchase. Have a plan for your car before you begin. Know what you want in terms of performance and how much you want to alter the car's condition. Otherwise, blindly buying parts will get you broke very very quickly. The specs for the TPI motors can be found on this site. Good luck.

Re: what are the specs for 350 tpi?
TPI specific parts are abundant at Arizona Speed and Marine... Also check Lingenfelter and Accel.
A lot of TPI performance upgrades can be done yourself, depending on where you want your performance. You can get more power in your higher RPM's by siamesing the intake ports. Also hogging out the plenum can work wonders. My chip and MSD ignition upgrades woke up my car quite nicely. But keep in mind, a little performace only goes so far. You start to get used to it and feels like you're at square one again.

Re: what are the specs for 350 tpi?
I'd advise against siamesing intake manifold ports. There have been problems of motors burning up pistons because of uneven fuel distribution. More specifically, between cylinders 5 and 7 because they are next to each other in firing order.
Check this out: Can siamesing hurt my engine?

Re: what are the specs for 350 tpi?
Well.. I stand corrected.. thanks for that info.. althought I think they are doing it right by the injectors.. I was thinking of siamesing them where the runners bolt to the base.. like an inch into the port.. this way only the air is shared.. not the fuel.. each cylinder will get their own fuel injector still.. wouldn't that prevent leaning out of cylinder 7?

Re: what are the specs for 350 tpi?
ahhhh.. see how much the heads make a difference? I have basically the same kind of setup as that, except the original TPI, not corvette.
