frustrated with mechanics

I've paid my newly found mechanic to put in a rebuilt 350 in my 87 gta and got it back and ever since have had problems with the cars idle when its cold, the tach jumps all over when i start it, he said he'd be happy to check it out for me and did. He said the MAF needed to be replaced. fine but I did that five months ago at my last place i took my car ( dispute over charges ended the relationship with that mechanic, wouldn't give him my diry underwear let alone my car) so i took it back to him because the part should have been under warrenty he did some checking and assured me the sensor is fine and found that an electrical connection was broke and replaced it) I do believe that the maf is good it looks like its still right out of the box. but when it rains or has any moisture in the air not to mention car washes the dreded engine light comes on and it runs for shi# at best any thoughts?? yes the distributer and plug wires are fine i just replaced them myself, but what about the o2 sensor any suggestions appriciated

Re: frustrated with mechanics

Well what does the trouble code say when this happens.

Re: frustrated with mechanics

the next time the ses light comes on jumper the 2 terminals and let us know what code you get and we'll try to help you out. Is the cam in the engine stock? I have an lt4 hotcam in my car right now, had a zz4 before this one. With each cam the idle would move up and down up and down until the car was warm, then the idle stays constant.

Re: frustrated with mechanics

i still have the problem, doesn't make a difference to me. It goes up and down up and down until the car is warm and then it stays at 650 which is tuned in my chip. I actually like it because i know exactly when my car is ready to go. As for your code 33 your maf sensor or one of the relays might be going out. Tap on your maf sensor while your car is running and see if anything different happens. There is a code 33 maf trouble shooting chart in the chilton books and online at www.thirdgen.org. Definitely get the relays before anything if you are gonna replace something. They are 10 bucks each, the sensor was 175. I know I just had to replace both of mine.
