Fiberglass aerowing fitment

Ok, I just got the fiberglass aerowing from F-Body Motorsports and wanted to know if there are any fitment issues I need to know. The paint shop is going to be installing it after they get it painted along with the rest of car.

Thanks,

-Ozzy

Re: Fiberglass aerowing fitment

Ozzy, the fiberglass wing I have had no mounting issues whatsoever. We just installed the mounting clamps (my wing did not reuse the OEM plastic clips) on the sides, and the rear bolted up as OEM. Pretty simple, actually.

I did have to construct new spoiler gaskets, as the originals are N/A from GM anymore.

Re: Fiberglass aerowing fitment

Thanks Frankie, just opened the box today. I did notice some edges do need some finishing. Some look like they were just cleaned up with a coarse file to remove the rough edges. The construction is a two piece, top and bottom and one corner did not glue up very good because the top separated from the bottom.

Re: Fiberglass aerowing fitment

I have just spent a few hours preping up this aerowing. I had to fill some edges with resin and sand quite a bit. For the money I would expect to get a product that was ready to paint and mount. But that is too much to ask. The quality of their final product leaves a lot to be desired, IMO.
So after a few hours of my own time it looks very good and ready for paint. I will send F-Body Motorsports some feedback on this issue.

Re: Fiberglass aerowing fitment

I have been thinking about ordering one for my car. If this is the case I will search for a good original. For that kind of coin they better be ready for paint out of the box.

Re: Fiberglass aerowing fitment

My spoiler was ready to install out of the box, but I got it from GT Auto Accessories. All it required was a scuff for painting. If there was that much rework required, I'd definitely take it up with the company that sold it to you.

I have received an inquiry just yesterday from a party based in Ohio that is interested in possibly getting into the market of reproducing these spoilers as well. They own a fiberglass plant overseas and also a distributing facility here in the states. They are definitely interested in trying to get into the market and are offering a free spoiler to anyone who will provide a sample that they can use for a mold (must be shipped overseas).... If anyone's interested contact me via e-mail.

Let me hit the local yard Frankie. There is usually one out there every now and then.

Re: Fiberglass aerowing fitment

I have the GT Auto Accessories one as well and had no problems with it, no prep work and it looks great. Installed without any problems.

Re: Fiberglass aerowing fitment

We have had about 5 of the GT Auto Accessories units in and 2 installed locally here with impressive results... No complaints... and no more work in preparing then any other good surface or new part... infact probably better then many fibreglass type repro parts we have seen come in ..

Re: Fiberglass aerowing fitment

I guess I should have gone with those instead. I sent FBody Motorsports an email and no reply yet. The wing is at the shop now, we'll see how it holds after some time of use.

Brian, the GT Fiberglass link on The Source Page is the right company. The partners have split up and the company George has started has relocated. Just contact George Ostrom at the site for more info.

Re: Fiberglass aerowing fitment

HI,
I am a New member, I have had a n 87 Firebird since '90 awsome shape with 243,000 miles on carbed 305. Just picked up an '88 GTA two weeks ago at an unheard of "LOW" price but like most gta's the rear spoiler leaves much to be desired, have looked at all the pages I could find, but could not find this "George" at GT Auto Accessories, could you forward the web address or PH# to me at pkvocals@hotmail.com thank you very much PAUL

Post Re: Fiberglass aerowing fitment

I've heard some bad stuff about F-Body Motorsports. I was thinking about doing some business with them, but after reading this thread (below) on the Hideout and hearing about problems with parts I am rather leary of doing any sort of business with them. Just a heads up...
