1989 ASC GTA Convertable Authentication

I found a 1989 GTA convertable for sale and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for determining if the vehicle is truely an ASC convertable.

Thanks in Advance

EASY TAKE THE VIN TO THE LOCAL PONTIAC DEALER AND LOOK IN THE CONSOLE TO SEE IF IT IS A TRUE GTA LOOK FOR CODE Y84.

I don't know if it is too late for this response but ASC convertibles are easy to pick out. There should be a sticker inside the drivers door on the inside frame by the locking mechanism that says it's an ASC conversion. If that is not there you can do a search and see other firebird or camaro convertibles. Most of them are ASC conversions. You can tell the ones that aren't. I also agree with the last post. Look for Y84 in the code list in the console. BTW, from the other posts I've read, the dealer can only research VIN's on '91 or newer. Also, the VIN wouldn't show as a convertible because the convertible job back then was an aftermarker conversion. Don't worry though, if it is an ASC job then it was an authorized conversion. Along many posts I've been defending this opinion. Talking with ASC myself many times recently, they assure me that they don't do conversions for the public. They only deal business to business. Meaning all jobs were cleared through GM. By the way, hope you got it, I own an '87 GTA vert and love it. Email me if you want more info. I also have the production numbers for all ASC conversions on Camaro's and Firebirds done from '87 to '90.
