Best way to completely clean engine

I have to clean the non use and leaves etc out of it... My dad has a power washer but im afraid of screwing up any electronic components in the engine...

How can i completely clean the compartment? Do i have to scrub it with a brush individually? Can i use the power washer and a mild soap?

Re: Best way to completely clean engine

Be careful. There are a lot of electrical connections sensors, etc. You do not want to get any of them wet. You can get a connection wet, and not have a problem immediately, but when the connection drys, and if it starts building up corrosion, etc from hard water. You can have a prob down the road. Nathan has a good idea about the vacuum. And some good old fashion wiping you should be all set. Hell, years ago, you could cover up the carb, ans distributor and spray away. Nothing was electronic. Now forget about that. LOL.
Later man

Re: Best way to completely clean engine

what I meant to say earlier was... use a vacuum (shop vac) to get all the leaves out of there... as for the rest, I've never had a problem pressure washing the engine, just pay attention where you direct the water.. try to be indirect when it comes to electrical.

Re: Best way to completely clean engine

I have done it many times with no problems. I figured it was ok since it had the weather pack connectors.
