Re: question about the slp intake box

Ignore the "capped" plug on the canister, it's there just to allow air into the canister when needed.

The red plug is for the vacuum solenoid on the purge canister. That is needed for the canister to work properly. It's a 2 wire connector.

The sensor that goes into the side of the box is does not come from SLP that way. It looks like someone has installed an Intake Air Temp sensor there to fool the computer into thinking it has a colder overall air temp and will allow a bit more spark timing and fuel to give you a small added boost to power.

Hope this helps

Re: question about the slp intake box

Stock, the IAT is mounted to the bottom of the stock plenum, heat soaking, and if you check the actual sensor, it's just a water temp sensor!

I relocated my IAT to just behind the MAF, and used a TBI sensor, which is a TRUE air sensor, as it has a "caged wire" for the tip.

Relocating the IAT, does not "trick" the ECM, but rather gives it a TRUE reading.

This is on my buddies 91 Z28, so mounting it was easy for him. He just got a V6 intake piece. I drilled a hole to the bottom of my intake tubing, and used 2 washers, to distribute the load, and a nut to hold it. My mpg is consistently up by about 2 mpg, and my throttle response is crisper, like when the engine is cooler, before getting hot. Now, in the middle of the day, I still have crisper throttle response. It's a good mod.

IAT relocation article

Re: question about the slp intake box

ok thanks.. cause we have the tranny out and all... so we minus well go ahead and do that... that should work real well with my new slp intake and airfoil... and i guess the guy did all the work for me because that sensor is in the slp box nice and neatly... it was done so well we thought it came that way...
