Headers for 5.0L / 5.7L TPI
Does anyone recommend an excellent pair of headers for these motors? preferably ceramic coated or stainless? Is there something that just fits right with no modifying, cutting or bending of any kind?
Any advise would be great !! Thanks ! |

Any shorty's headers will be fine flow tech is great cause they are cheap an are a direct bolt up with the flow tech y pipe of course, hedmann headers are also great an for the price u cant go wrong but u do need the y pip for those as well an also come with a lifetime warranty, edelbrock makes legal smog emission headers but they no longer sell exhaust products so if u go with these make sure they arent bent to poop an also must have the pipe for those as well. I also believe summit sells its own brand headers but i havent a y pipe made to go with them

Dyno Don's headers have the ceramic 1 3/4 tubes made especially for the 3rd gen vehicles..

When Canada, you need to go thru TDS, he has a web site
He shows them with & without AIR http://www.top-downsolutions.com/powertrain-performance Last edited by 92rszz4; 08-25-2012 at 11:45 AM. |

Re: Headers for 5.0L / 5.7L TPI
I have Edelbrock shorty headers on my '89 5.7 GTA. I am pretty sure they are no longer available since I've been looking around for a replacement crossover/y pipe with NO luck. Hawks 3rd Gen used to sell these, not sure what shorties he might sell currently. Call 'em and ask.

Re: Headers for 5.0L / 5.7L TPI
Thanks guys, all the information is excellent but has anyone actually installed any on their GTA without having to butcher anything? I have 3" stainless magna flow exhaust with a catco high flow cat. I understand it will need the Y pipe too.
Thanks !! |

Re: Headers for 5.0L / 5.7L TPI
Dyno Don is a member on www.thirdgen.org. He custom made these headers for my car. Other than the SLPs which are out of production and fit like crap, his are the only shorty style headers made in 1 and 3/4in size making them the largest available. As for pricing, please shoot him a PM. They are also sold at TDS, but it's cheaper if you buy directly from him.

Do all of Dons headers come only in 1 and 3/4 seems kind of big if I had a stock engine?

Re: Headers for 5.0L / 5.7L TPI
I had them on my stock L98 and they performed beautifully. The car performed much better than it did before. Now with the hotter 350 in there, they're a perfect match.

Re: Headers for 5.0L / 5.7L TPI
what about Sanderson's Headers? they claim to be the smallest, tight fitting
1 3/4" header around but do they make them with the air pipes ? would need them so emission tests can be done in Ontario.....??? Thanks all !! |

Just make ur own air pipes an drill out holes into the headers then run ur pipes to each one an mig weld to seal the new air tubes to the headers

Re: Headers for 5.0L / 5.7L TPI
Geo
I have a set of headers put on by Dyno Don on the Camaro and the soonest I get the GTA going I'm getting pair for her. I used to have a set of the edelbrock header 1 5/8" and the were the worst modification I did to the camaro. The car will overhead, no room for them and I burn 3 set of spark plug wires with those edelbrock headers. I recommend you getting Dyno Don's costume headers they work perfect on our cars, Don also fabricated the y pipe for me. |

For all the guys that have Dyno Dons headers on their TPI motors, do you have any pics under the hood so I can see how they look ?
