My vehicle, as well a true GTA always shows as follows:

Year/Make/Model: 1991 PONTIAC FIREBIRD TRANS AM/GTA
Just checked and noticed that the Emblem on the front-right fender is NOT positioned as an official GTA emblem would. The "G" in GTA should be the only letter above the side-moulding. Here's the way it's supposed to be on an official GTA:

Now here's what the eBay car shows. In this case, the 1st letter is a "G", and it should be the only letter over the side-moulding:

V73 is what is on this GTA RPO sticker that I got from the wrecking yard. V73 is the option code for Antenna, Fixed. So perhaps after a certain year, the power antenna was no longer a standard GTA feature, perhaps it never was. So Stephen, maybe your GTA never came with a power antenna. Yumiko

Re: "Super Rare 1 of 600"/Production #s

Checked something else. The Nose emblem on the eBay car has a Firebird outlined in Black, while the Nose emblem on the one being sold on Car Motorsports has Firebird outlined in White. Anyone here happen to own a White GTA so we can check that?

The eBay Nose emblem:

The Car Motorsports Nose emblem:

The Trans AM and GTA both shared the same prefix VIN (1g2fw). Just looking at a VIN, you cannot tell if it's a true GTA or just a Trans AM. You can only tell it's either one.

A base Firebird or Formula would have a VIN prefix of 1g2fs

The CarFax site does not know if you own a true GTA or just a Trans AM.

I think the black outlining you are referencing is simply a lighting shadow. Yumiko

Both the Formula and the Trans Am shared the "W" designation:

W = Formula, Trans Am

Actually, that's incorrect:

John is a Formula guru. Check a few Formula VINs and you should see they do not have 1G2FW, but instead have 1G2FS

It's readily apparent that the the Emblem on the front-right fender is NOT positioned as an official GTA emblem would. The "G" in GTA should be the only letter above the side-moulding. This is a fairly straight forward point of criteria to prove the authenticity of the car.

As far as the Nose emblem is concerned, the firebirds' feathers on the Car Motorsports item is plainly outilned in White, while the wings on the eBay car are dark. Again, does anyone on this website own an authentic, White GTA so we can check the color on the edge of the firebirds' wings?

With these cars being known for bad paint, it is difficult to base the position of the badges as telling the authenticity of a GTA. We see many true GTAs that have the badges incorrectly positioned, probably due to repaint.

Well, on one side, the "G" would over the moulding on the passenger side, the "A" would on the driver's side. And, in the case of repaints, the emblems are commonly placed incorrectly.

Emblem from an authentic GTA Notchback with around 18K miles:

By the way, the car on eBay has worn out badges. You can see the gold edges of the GTA nose badge is worn in many spots.

Looking at my VINs, the check digit on my 89 is a #, not a letter, in the 9th position...

1G2FW2186KL######

On my 87...
1G2FW218XHL######

Anybody know why the 9th digit on my 89 is a #, not a letter?

Re: "Super Rare 1 of 600"/Production #s

Could just be sequence. The one on my '87 is a number as well.

As for rarity in a car, I would consider mine a more "rare" car than some.

Re: "Super Rare 1 of 600"/Production #s

But, the 9th digit is supposed to be the check digit, so it doesn't follow what it it supposed to be.

That is true...my wife has a Formula 350 while I have the GTA. The first five of our VINs are different.

In alot of things, a digit could be considered 0-9 and A-Z

Re: "Super Rare 1 of 600"/Production #s

It works on my 87, but not sure on my 89. Check digit is a 6, but the final result is 367/11=33.3636363636363636, where it just be a .6, not.36363636363636

Any ideas gurus?

This discussion is making my head hurt too..... and HARRY, I like your GTA emblem placement diagram. A LOT.

Also, V73 is the code for the US/Canadian Vehicle Statement. The fixed antenna would have a "U" code instead of a "V". U73, perhaps?
