I know I have thought about it, but, I am lookin for a pic of my car with one on it, its actually a side view. I saw it somewhere and dont remember where. It also had a 4th gen wing on it and it was green to boot.

Re: Stock hood weight?

Well, I found a 91/92 (kinda looks green), but the hood fit is bad...

I have no idea who's page this is, I just stumbled across it one day, but there are THOUSANDS of pics, organized into Camaros, Firebirds, etc. I recognized several cars from TGO.

Re: Stock hood weight?

Post again if you need the actual weight #s of the stock T/A hood.

I've got one in the garage that I can weigh up this weekend. I just have to dig it out.

It has the hinges, shocks, underhood padding, all the plasticky bits etc all attached still so it would be pretty accurate. Just hope the scale I have can handle it's weight lol

Re: Stock hood weight?

Regarding the struts for a fiberglass hood, some of the early Camaro's came from the factory with fiberglass hoods. You can get these at just about any major parts store. The application chart specifies the proper number for a glass hood.

Hope that helps someone.

I don't NEED the weight, but if you get it, that would be cool. I can't believe nobody has ever weighed theirs. I've askedall around, and it seems nobody ever has.

So how come you can not believe no one else has not weighed theirs, apparently you have not weighed yours before so why are you so surprised that no one else has? Yumiko

Re: Stock hood weight?

I'm just surprised that there seems to be NOBODY on the 'net, anywhere, to have ever done it. Not even the drag racers, looking for that last little pound. You'd think I would find at least one person, in all the web forums to have done it. I'm not hunting for shedding lbs, unlike the drag racers. I was just curious.

When I did mine, way back when, the guy brought his Harwood over, we pulled mine, put it down, put the Harwood on, then put mine on his car. Not like it was ever even sitting around. Within 15 minutes of coming off my wifes car, it went on his car.

Found the RA I hood, but it is cosmetic, non-functional.

Thanks! For only a 21-26lb (they said it would be 40-45lbs) weight savings, that's not even worth considering for saving weight.

I might look around, for a different hood. Weight savings isn't a big goal, butI might wanna take that into consideration, considering the $500+- cost.

Thanks a lot dude!

Re: Stock hood weight?

Yeah Stephen...I've been looking at that one. There used to be a functional one out there but it appears no one makes it anymore. It's no good to me unless it's functional. Cliff, the Ram Air II hood is functional. The airbox for it is around another $300 or so.

Hmmm, I will have to think about it. I wish I could find that pic again. It would help me make up my mind.

Re: Stock hood weight?

If you want to remove weight, have you ever considered to remove the rear hatchback and replace it with one of those fiberglass notchback lids? I see them on E-bay for sale and they seem like they would be much lighter. The stock hatchback with the glass and the stock rear fin must weigh a few hundred pounds I would guess. When we repainted my GTA the first time in 1997/1998, I did not participate in lifting my GTA hatchback. But I have tried to lift it when the shocks were removed and I could not, even with the rear fin removed for repainting, I could not even lift up the hatchback without the shocks attached.

So maybe getting replacing your rear hatchback with a fiberglass notchback may remove alot of weight. Yumiko
