Steering Brace (Wonderbar)

I am thinking of installing one of these, along with a strut tower brace, on my 1989 GTA. Has anyone installed this steering brace aka a wonderbar on a GTA? Is there anything special I should know? Spohn makes an adjustable one, which I think I would get. BMR makes a non-adjustable one also.

I purchased my Wonderbar from Top Down Solutions. Simple bolt on, no special tricks, etc. easy to install. I also have a Hotchkiss strut tower brace. It definitely stiffened up the front end. Not sure what an adjustable Wonderbar would buy you. Maybe if the car had a damaged front end and you couldnt get a non-adjustable one to fit?

Re: Steering Brace (Wonderbar)

You have a steering brace from Edelbrock? Do you mean a strut tower brace? I have seen steering braces from Spohn, UMI, TDS and BMR but not Edelbrock. Please provide information on the Edelbrock steering brace aka wonderbar.

Sphon makes an adjustable one as well as a non-adjustable one. Everyone else’s is non-adjustable. I have heard a few problems with the Sphon wonderbar hitting the duel electric fans, which results in needing to cut the plastic fan shrouds. Also, some people have indicated the holes do not line up with the Sphon unit to bolt on underneath the sway bar bushing mounts. A few people said they had no problems with the TDS wonderbar. Anyone else experienced fitment problems with wonderbars on GTA’s?

Re: Steering Brace (Wonderbar)

I've bought Wonderbars for each of my GTA's from Lon at TDS. They are an easy install and you can get them in many different colors.

Re: Steering Brace (Wonderbar)

I have a Spohn one and I wouldn't recomend it, look at getting one from TDS.

Re: Steering Brace (Wonderbar)

Factory Chevy ones (IROC ones) work just fine.
As do all of the aftermarket ones.
I would have to say the choice is yours.

Re: Steering Brace (Wonderbar)

I know this thread is getting a little old but I thought I would update it any way.

I installed the TDS wonderbar two days ago. I can report it fitted under the stock sway bar with no problem. The TDS wonderbar also produced a noticeable improvement in steering.
