Maximum tire size?

I have an 88 GTA with stock rims, what's the widest tire size I can go?

Re: Maximum tire size?

I hav 255ZR16's on mine but it depends on tire manufacturers.
If you want wider tires I suggest you look at bigger rims (height and width)and while your at it go for lower profile tires. Suggest you try 17"x9" or 17"x10".
Hope this helps.
You could always put later model rims on!

Re: Maximum tire size?

Thanks for the suggestion. I do , however, want to keep the gold spokes on there ( I think the black spokes are hideous). Do any other year GTA's have a 17x9 rim on it? I believe an 88 has 16x8's on it, perhaps even another year has 16x9's on it? I would like to eventually get 315x50x17's on there. Thanks for your help.

Re: Maximum tire size?

Nope, all GTA rims are 16 x 8 in size..... I don't know the answer to your question, but I need to find out this info for the Source Page's visitors. It's a popular topic of discussion.....

Re: Maximum tire size?

I have fitted big BF Goodrich Comp TA 275/50's to my standard rear GTA wheels. They fill up the GTA wheel well nicely and give the rear a more solid look, however because my car is lowered I did have to trim a little off the inner fender lip and beat some high spots down in the wheel well on the opposite side. Without this the tyres were scraping around hard corners.
