88-89 cassette radio with aux

has anyone had the aux mini 3.5 m stereo input phone jack (when you plug in your mp3 or aux audio, it will cut out the signal of the radio and take your mp3 in. it is direct input to preamplifier section. the eq and audio cntrol will work as normal and direct input will not lose signal as the fm module or hiss noise and mechanism noise from the tape deck. i have read and asked several of the guys on ebay that sell other models with this aux input about our model and they say they cannot add it,because without the stereo hooked to the steering wheel its locked and they cannot get pass this.

Re: 88-89 cassette radio with aux

I think it would be easy to do if you knew the schematic of the PCB in the radio. Then you could create a daughter board that would do just what you said, direct the input signal to the preamp section of the board. I would have it setup on a relay or a switch for "mode" so that you could swap between radio or aux. I'd need to pull apart my radio to have a good look at it, but I do not have a steering wheel control setup. I dunno what the PCB is like on any of the radios...

This is so true...Once the radio is removed, and applying auxiliary 12v power puts the radio in Loc mode, and the only way to un-loc it is through the radio control pad in the steering wheel. I guess this was GM's idea of detouring radio theft.

Re: 88-89 cassette radio with aux

I use one of those things you use to play ipod thru non used FM radio station(i use 106.7), mine works great, and sound is boomin. My trick is to set volume at 50% on Ipod Nano, then stereo volume at 75%+ .... sound kicks. Totally stock 89 Am/fm/cassette stereo.

Bought at walmart for like $9.99

Re: 88-89 cassette radio with aux

Question I have is ... perhaps Red88GTA can answer ... if you tap into the cassette wires 8,9 10 ...
1) will it effect cassette play ? doubt it, but ask anyway.
2) or do you cut the output wires 8,9,10 and have to insert a cassette so it plays and blanks out am/fm. Since there is no selection switch to just play cassette, activate when tape is inserted.
