new radio problems, help?

ok so i just switched out my stock 1989 gta radio, pretty much all the colors of my stock wires and not the same colors as my new cd player radio... so i tryed to go with the best i could, without knowing what every single stock wire is for, with that being said im stuck with 2 purpleish wires and 2 white wires, my radio turns on when i turn my key in, but the lcd screen does not come on i can put a cd in but nothing comes on nor plays, i do not have the antana in because i need to get a new bigger one, any help or info? maybe i wires 2 together wrong? maybe someone knows a site of all the stock color wires and what there for? so i can re wire it or maybe the cd player is bad? im not sure... like i said no antenna is connected and most of the wires are connected but im left wire a few stock color wires and my new radio wires that colors dont match up???like my black wire my stock radio has no black wire.. just a dark brown so i connected the dark brown to the black and there was a bright pink wire and no red wire so i connected the pink to the red, radio turns on but wont display anything

Re: new radio problems, help?

You're all over the place with your post...

Go get the adapter harness from any auto part's store, wire the adapter to your new head unit following the instructions.

Some of the new head units will have some extra wires you don't need to do anything with.

Don't connect wire colours together, they are seperate because they do different things.

Orange and brown go together on the original harness.

But im pretty sure that the GM harness adapter will have the pinout of what you connect where. Go to moderndaymuscle.com and order a used radio harness if you don't have the factory harness anymore.

Re: new radio problems, help?

Sorry I was all over with that post, new to radio wireing, I have the org wire harness but someone cut it off, it don't connect to my new radio, tho so when I bought a new radio it came with its own harness that I was trying to figure out, it came with a paper of what its wires are for but I was trying to figure out what my factory wires connect to like the pink factory wire and illuminate wire and dimmer wire

Re: new radio problems, help?

If you got your OEM radio working, why are you changing it out? You have your own reasons I guess,,,
If you want to sell the OEM radio, let me know it's symtems and price. Meanwhile, here is the OEM radio wiring diagram for your car. All you need do is follow the replacement radio diagram to hook it up to the OEM wiring.

Re: new radio problems, help?

1st steep is to Fix the factory harness with a proper used connector and wiring.
buy a install kit with harness adapter to make the job easy and clean.
wire the adapter harness to the new radio harness following the directions/wiring diagrams provided. It should come with a antenna adapter also
plug your new adapter harness in to your stock harness
stick it all together and enjoy..
