Re: so I've accidentally stumbled across a gta

Yes, that is the same kind of hood that my friends Trans Am had. Now that I can look at it (23 years later with more car knowledge), it does seem that is an electrical type of actuation and not a vacuum type of system.

Re: so I've accidentally stumbled across a gta

those flapper motors always died apparantly. But when you floored it, the flapper was supposed to open to give you a bit of extra air into the carb can.

Car was returned yesterday and is fine, I almost broke into a little touchdown dance haha. Due to conflicting schedules though I wont actually have possession of it untill Sunday or Monday Hopefully nothing lame happens in the mean time. Pictures coming as soon as I get the car.

That was the same hood, yes...but at that point they were non-functional and for looks to use up leftover hoods. Just the same as they used the same design for GTA sail-birds as they did for Recaros in 82-84.

But I digress...

Paige, congratulations on them finding your car! And kudos to the father for taking it away from someone not treating it well!! Glad it's all working out for you!

Don't forget the pictures....

Re: so I've accidentally stumbled across a gta

***chime in late***

Actually this hood was carried over from the 9180 and 81 Turbo Trans Am, It was needed to clear the Turbo/ Carb assembly on the motor. Pontiac had actually designed the 1982 T/A to run with the 301Turbo V8 and actually built test vehicles. Well in 81 is when GM decided to cut all V8's except the chevy and run that on all lines. Pontiac then decided to run with the CFI and leave the "power buldge " hood.

This is my 1980 Turbo TA

Re: so I've accidentally stumbled across a gta

Although several '82 T/As had V8s without the bulge hood.

Re: so I've accidentally stumbled across a gta

You know I've heard that but never have seen one. They all end up being S/E cars with a 9" front bird on the tip of the hood. All 82-84 actual T/A's I've seen had this hood. But as well all know What ever anyone says anything was possible, depending on who you knew, and how much you were willing to pay!

Here ya go...it's old, but original. The guy who posted this knew this girl from high school and she still owns the car. 1982 T/A.

Re: so I've accidentally stumbled across a gta

And another...

LU5 Crossfires got the power bulge hood by default. LG4s didn't necessarily get them in 82, or if they did, they weren't functional. That didn't start until 1983 model year.

Re: so I've accidentally stumbled across a gta

I remember going to a Pontiac dealership back in 1982, and asked about a few Trans Ams on their lot not having the offset hood scoop hood.
The one salesman brought me into the office, and dug up a bullitin showing that Pontiac had run out of hoods.
I'm not even sure if I have this or not, in all my literature.
I'll have to check.

Re: so I've accidentally stumbled across a gta

It is possible for them to have ran out of the buldge hoods. I have seen factory LG4 82's with the off set hood, correct no cowl induction unitl LU5 or L69's, I have never seen a TA (in person at least) with a standard hood. Usually they were in accidents and get the wrong hoods put on them. Any thing was possible!

Re: so I've accidentally stumbled across a gta

Is the hood designated on a rpo code or the build sheet?
