Gas Mileage

My fuel milage is so bad right now. I have no idea what's wrong. I know it's winter and the car idles a lot but still 247KM on a tank. It sucks!! If any one knows of anything that needs to be replaced or looked at PLEASE let me know.

LOL...You need to bring it over to my shop in Saskatchewan and tuck it in with my GTA's for the winter. Canada is no place for a GTA when the snow flies. Its so hard to say what the cause is over the internet because its impossible for anyone to tell whats been done to the car. A simple place to start is a tune up. Or possibly a winter beater. Remember its getting hard to find new parts on these cars like for instance your notchback lid. Its too easy to be rear ended on splippery streets ect. My money goes on a beater car...

Good idea and i honestly wish i could. I'm parking it at the end of the month. Still gonna be out side(which sucks) but i'll just drive the parents trusty cars until the sun is shining. PS till me about the slippery roads some @$$ in a focus hit my mom's GTP just an hour ago. Stupid canadians eh! Don't know how to drive

How many liters do you use up for your 247km. I think I use about 40L and get around 240-260km city.

Like intake68 said, go with a tune up first: i.e new fuel filter, PVC valve, cap, rotor, (maybe new wires?), check your spark plug gap, and a new air filter (unless you have a K&N). If after a few tanks of gas you do not see an improvement, you might have a leaky injector or a leaking fuel pressure regulator (internal). Have you checked your fuel pressure with a gauge to see if it is steady and if it holds pressure when the car is off? Just some ideas.

Hey Andy nice to see someone else from around home. Myself, I call Regina home. I will have to look you up this spring when I come up to SIR and see how many seconds I can drop off last years time with my engine rebuild on my white GTA.

Thanx for all the help. I put in about 40 L to tony. But those little things like you said james definitely won't hurt my mileage.

OXYGEN SENSOR.

one of the cheapest ($50 US), relatively simple fixes (just need a big ~ 1 1/4" socket tool) that was really the silver bullet for my 92 TA. gas mileage went from 11/20 mpg (city/highway) to 16/22 in a week. new fuel filter and spark plugs took it to 17/23.

the O2 sensor also helped fix the acceleration problems (didn't like to go above 2400 rpm much). they're supposed to last around 50-60k miles (100k km) but no one ever seems to change them.

Remember, the gas companies reformulate the fuel for winter driving in Canada and the colder US states, and usually this means less fuel economy when the snow flies.
