EGR Code 32

Getting some funky EGR readings off a brand new EGR.

Basically EGR code 32 is being thrown for no apparant reason.

Now I haven't checked the wiring for the EGR solenoid yet, but thats on the list to do this coming weekend.

The old one was the original one from 88, never changed and never threw a code.

The new one is throwing a code shortly after firing it up. Maybe that means that it's actually working where as the old one wasn't heh.

How do I verify the new one is working and how do I test the EGR solenoid to ensure it is working.

During my datalogging I noticed that the EGR system was on 100% during decelleration and 0% when accelerating as per normal. However that could have just been what the solenoid was running and the EGR valve could have been doing nothing...

Another thing to check is the EGR diagnostic switch. It is that little sensor, with a black wire, mounted on the front section of the EGR valve. Quick synopsis of code 32 is that this switch was closed during startup or or not detected closed after warmup. There is a one wire inline connector near the left rear ( drivers side) of the plenum, check that it is mated correctly.

Re: EGR Code 32

will check to ensure that sensor is hooked up properly.

Is there a way to energize it or test to see if it is OK or faulty?

Multimeter sounds called-for here. Do you have one?

Basically, the failure mode is always grounded or always open. Switch/sensor should close ( grounded) after about 4 minutes of engine run time. Requirements are temp above 176F or 80C, TPS less than WOT and not at idle( .54 volts) and EGR duty cycle greater than 48%. At start up it should not be grounded.
