Mike, I see you already posted a link for me. Thanks again. I'm also gonna try austinthirdgen.org too, since that's where the car is.

Just got an offer from a gent in Austin who wants to put a TTA drivetrain in it! It'd be a rocket, but there goes the matching numbers.

Re: '88 GTA Notchback for sale

that would be me. .. I would fix it and drive it for a while / while I get this TTA drivetrain ready to go. Then it will be the difficult choice of putting the driveline in my 92 Z28 or this. Let's work it out. Give me call - I just left you a message on your vmail.

It would be in very good hands. I have had a number of G and F bodies over the years!

Re: '88 GTA Notchback for sale

dude dont crush it- fix the head gasket and u could get 6 or 7 grand, maybe more. depends on if you can find somebody who wants it, but thats not hard since these are popular cars. It costs very little to have a head gasket fixed (especially if u do it yourself, like i did on my dads convertible GTA.)

If you don't mind me asking what made you decide to sale the car? I seen it on eBay:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...m=130504467516

So did it not have a blown headgasket? I seen no mention in the auction of that.

Re: '88 GTA Notchback for sale

That's me. Went ahead and fixed the car over the last week, then got it all cleaned up. My wife's truck needs to be replaced so I now need to sell this one sooner than I wanted to. It runs absolutley awesome! $8500 is the buy it now. There is a reserve on the auction.

Re: '88 GTA Notchback for sale

It did not have a blown head gasket. The water pump was leaking at the weep hole and there was coolant loss when it got hot. I replaced the water pump and drove it about 100 miles. Bingo - no coolant loss. The shop that had the car said it needed a long block and had a flat cam. It ran really rough when I got it. It had a clogged injector as well and I think some carbon build up. I had the injectors flowed and just driving the car some after it was sitting for so long helped a ton.

The car is really tight and really strong. I wish my Z28 performed as well as this GTA.

Re: '88 GTA Notchback for sale

When I inquired about the car, it was said that the oil was milky. Also said that there was never any leaks noticed.

If the oil was really milky, then that would be a sign, along with loss of coolant, to indicate a blown headgasket or intake gasket or head issue. If the oil was milky, then an added concern would be over the bearings.

What was the cause for the milky oil?

Re: '88 GTA Notchback for sale

JT,

I was told the same exact thing. When I picked the car up it had fresh oil in it. I now have logged 200 miles on the car since the repairs and there are no signs of any milky oil at all. I spoke to the shop and they did not say anything about milky oil only that it needed a long block and had a flat cam. These guys were crooks. I have since had two other shops check it out and neither could find anything wrong with the car other than the waterpump being bad and a fuel injector being clogged. It's near impossible for a roller cam to go flat. Compression is even strong in all cylinders - they said all cylinders had weak compression.

I pulled the valve covers - no milky oil or residue anywhere. I feel bad for the fella that sold it to me because honestly there is nothing seriously wrong with the car. The waterpump was leaking out of the weep hole when we pressure tested the system. Since then - no coolant loss and no cooling problems. 200 miles logged and 195 on the gauge the entire time. If you or anyone else is still interested in the car I welcome you to have it checked out by anyone you like. This car is a beast!

It was sold to a dealer that was specifically looking for one for one of his clients. It's going to a great home! Keep an eye out!!!
