it looks like a GTA to me, except for the lopsided hood, and the wrong wheels, the front plate,( Iwill never drill holes in my car's front bumper), and what the heck is it doing out in the snow ?

Re: im convienced this isnt a real GTA..

A lot of GTAs came with front plate mounts depending on what state they were from. Emma did because she's from Virginia...I took them off when I had her repainted. I still have them, just in case, but they did come with them.

The owner of that car, I believe, is on TGO. He liked the turbo hood and he's done quite a bit with body alignment. He just needs to straighten the hood a bit. I must confess, I tossed the idea around with my own, but decided not to since the rest of the car is original.

At least he used a real TA hood and not those retarded 3" or 4" cowls. Those are not my cup of tea.

Re: im convienced this isnt a real GTA..

new york law says we're supposed to have a front plate, but I haven't been bothered about it. I think a cowl hood like on the 4th gens would look good on our cars, not 3-4 inches though.

I dont think cowl hood would look good on 3rd or 4th gen firebirds, besides the ram air hoods on the 4th gens are cool, but actual 4 or 3 inch cowl would look dumb(in my oppinion)

Yes its a real GTA. The owner is on Thirdgen.org and he had tons of pictures of the car and he made a thread when he changed the GTA hood for the Formula.

Unfortunately, if the law requires one, driving with no front plate gives them an excuse to pull you over and possibly ticket you at any time.

I bought my '84 TA used from a dealer in California with no front plate (and the bumper had never been drilled for a front plate bracket). Never got stopped there as a high percentage of the vehicles had no front plate either (not sure what the law was there).

Moved to Washington state where they do require a front plate (unless you own an exotic and are buds with the Governor that is). Had tried to get a front bracket at the local Pontiac dealer but no luck so I kept the front plate on display in the windshield. Well I guess the troopers there get pretty bored so one pulled me over. I explained why I didn't have the front plate mounted but he ticketed me anyway and threatened to ticket me again. Since I had no desire to "interact" with that officer (or any others) again I reluctantly got some sheet metal screws, bent the plate slightly (probably also technically illegal) and screwed the plate directly to the bumper. I later explained what happened to the Judge who cut the fine in half.

Re: im convienced this isnt a real GTA..

i have my front plate attached to the pass side sun visor stuck to the window so it's pretty visible.

But its a pain to find proper mounting brackets...

Re: im convienced this isnt a real GTA..

I have a GM-original set, but I don't need them. I'm debating if I should sell them, but I guess for the right price, I would...

I'm not sure I WANT to...I don't see why I'd put them back on the car, but...

IDK.

Re: im convienced this isnt a real GTA..

I would hang on to them. Here in NM, they are considering passing the law that makes a front plate mandatory becuase of those stupid traffic light cams. I t can be required by law at any time. I'm glad mine was factory installed and always been there.

Re: im convienced this isnt a real GTA..

I still have mine from when I bought my car new.
Never removed from the GM Paper Package, still with the part numbers on it.
Funny thing about Arizona.
Get a regular plate, you only get one.
Get personal plates, you get two.
Only the back plate is required here.

Re: im convienced this isnt a real GTA..

i sent an email to the governor's office, telling him that if he was serious about cuts to the budget, he should change our stupid 2 plates required law..........that would cut plate production costs in half. been awhile, and i haven't received any reply..........must be because it's such a simple idea, lol.

Re: im convienced this isnt a real GTA..

I have seen a few GTAs and thirdgens running around with a cowl hood.
I don't think they are that bad.
I won't run one on my cars, but I do kinda like them.
