Dual cats. Remember those rating are Flywheel, not rear wheel so transmission and drivetrain have nothing to do with any power loss in those rating.

Well I learned something tonite. I always thought that the 305/5speed had a different cam and exhaust manifolds compared to the 305/auto. Don't ask me why I thought that because I can't recall where I picked it up in the first place, but its nice to know the right answer. So the only difference was the dual cats???

Correct. Now the older 305/auto had the peanut cam but the later one's did get the 350 cam just like the 305/5-spds. I know it was this way in 91 and 92 but I don't know when that started. Maybe 90?

I head about that manifold thing but I've never seen any proof...

....I was going through a few manuals tonite and stumbled across this info. The cams in the 305 cars are different from auto to manual. The info I have found is that GM cam part#10088155 with specs of 350/384 at 179/194 with a 109 LSA was used in all 305 tpi motors from 87 through 92. In the GTA years of 1990 through 1992 this cam was only avaiable in the 305/auto combo with GU2(2.73 ratio gears) which all 305/autos had. They had no other gear choice lif you selected a 305/auto.
The 305/5speed combo gave you GM cam#10111773 with specs of 413/428 at 202/207 with a 114.5 LSA. These cars also had one gear ratio available which was the GU6(3.42 ratio gears) which all 5 speed cars had. No other gear selections were available. I am unsure of exhaust manifolds I have to do some more reading but it looks like a few horsepower was made up by the cam in the 305/5 speed cars which used the same cam as the L98 cars from 1990-1992.

I used to think that too but some tech guys on Thirdgen.org through teardowns proved the 305/auto's in 91 and 92 had the L98 cam, not the peanut cam, same as the 305/5-spd.
