Saw this at a show
I was at a car show weekend before last and saw this
Looked like car was cleaned and then they tossed hay & dirt on it for the show. (never seen someone make their GTA dirty for a show) Under the dirt I could see some paint issues and drivers seat side bolster had wear. Maybe he is/will be a member here. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Re: Saw this at a show
Are the production numbers that he's got listed on that plaque correct or not? I suppose he may be accurate with those numbers. But I would question the "12 in the world" figure.
From looking at the pix with the other vehicles in the background, looks like they had a "weathered vehicle" show. So yeah, they blew dust and dirt all over it and added some hay and cobwebs to it for the "barn find car show" effects. I don't live on a farm but logic tells me that if it had been in a barn on a farm untouched for 17 years, wouldn't rodents get into it and tear it up? I did sheet metal work some years ago and it was interesting how we would always find dead mice and rats inside of insulation around sheet metal ducting for stoves and ovens in restarants. Like they'd borrow in during the night when things were cooled and then get cooked because of the high temps when all the equipment is in full operation. I'd think a farm with hay and whatnot would attract those type of rodents and they'd find their way into a vehicle and tear it up. |

Re: Saw this at a show
Why is it when people take pictures of notch backs,
they seldom show the "notch back"? |

Re: Saw this at a show
because, honestly, the "notch" is not sexy to most.

Re: Saw this at a show
That's not why in this case.
It was difficult & took a bit of waiting to get the pictures I did because of the crowd of people around it (there was some kind of raffle or celebrity appearance type thing going on in that corner of the show). Notch backs are more of a personal preference. One guy I used to work with kept trying to convince me to turn mine into a NB. I dont mean any disrespect for the car by this post. Presentation was unique. I would have have made a picture progess time line from the day I found it. I was mainly wondering about the accuracy of the sign saying 12 left out of 718 This site says a total of 625 units were built and I thought there were a lot more than 12 around. I think I may have seen maybe 3 for sale on local CL in the past 5 years (not sure if they were clones though). |

Re: Saw this at a show
It was just an observation. Wasn't meant as a
dig or slam. I just thought it was ironic given that they are rare. And no I don't have one. Mine is an 88 GTA Black with a 305. Regards Jerry |

Re: Saw this at a show
I have a black notchback with a 350 sitting in my garage that is registered...Pretty sure there's more than 12 registered and still running.

Re: Saw this at a show
Nice car, but I'm curious about the reasoning behind its "dirty" look.

Re: Saw this at a show
Thanks for replying. I've never seen a car show like that before, though it looked interesting.

Re: Saw this at a show
I'll also chime in on the "12 left" thing...
I have a notchback, registered and on the road. I also know of another one here in NJ that's on the road as well. Also, the "Only 50 had the 350" comment is also wrong. The 350 was common in the notchback. From talking to a bunch of my camaro/firebird friends previously about how many could be left, we felt a number around 250-300 would be more fair(or about 1/3). I personally know of 2 wrecked ones that were not fixable, and in addition to that, I also own 2 other OEM Notch hatches. Plus I've seen several, maybe a dozen or so, for sale over the past 15 years. My Factory Notchback ![]() My notchback "clone"/project. (OEM notchback hatch though) Also, spare yellow notchback hatch on wall in the back. ![]() Last edited by Oh5V; 06-24-2017 at 08:08 PM. |
