Road Trip!

My Wife and I are going to take a road trip in the GTA to Mt. Airy, NC this week. The car is ready to roll, and fortunately the weather looks to be perfect - especially since my A/C does not work. We did part of Rt. 66 this summer in our Corvette, but it was so hot we very infrequently put the top down. We had considered taking the GTA on that trip, but we would have been cooked.

Since I've had this car (2009) it has a new starter, fuel pump, O2 sensor, two new cats, water pump, new tires and battery (this year). I need an A/C compressor, but I won't need it on this trip.

So, if you see a fire red metallic '89 GTA T-top traveling I-77 this week, that's us.

Re: Road Trip!

Excellent! Driving the length of Route 66 in one of my old cars is definitely on the bucket list.

I hope you guys have a great journey.

Re: Road Trip!

I would have trouble convincing my wife to go on an extended trip. She doesn't like the rough WS6 ride.

I've heard the Blue Ridge pkwy is supposed to be pretty scenic in the fall.

Re: Road Trip!

If you are a fan of the Andy Griffith Show, this is a great place to spend a day or two (at most). We parked downtown and spent the day walking to most of the attractions. Took a 30 minute squad car tour to see some sights that are greater than walking distance. Narrated by a local resident and retired State Police officer. There was plenty of good food to eat. The town really cashes in on the Griffith memorabilia and one wonders what their existence would be like without a famous former resident.

This was a nice little trip, but we did not beat out the rain pushed in by hurricane Matthew. Had to drive through Virginia Friday in steady rain. T-tops are not 100% waterproof. No leakage when moving, but some on the drivers side when stopped. Have to sort that out. Other than that, car ran nearly perfectly (except for the occasional cloud of blue smoke on start-up!) - averaging 20 mpg with the cruise set around 75-80 mph. Still getting passed by Ford Focuses. I added 965 miles to the odometer.

Re: Road Trip!

I was unable to add this edit: The first three pictures are at a place called Cody Creek - about 15 miles from Mt. Airy - where we went for dinner. Was a nice scenic place for car pictures.

Re: Road Trip!

Except for the rain, it sounds like fun!

While I've never had a leak from my t-tops, I avoid rain like the plague if I can. But sometimes it's unavoidable.
